free to good home for postage...(two photos)

Hey All,

I don't know how to go about this. I have some iris I will be digging as soon as they are finished blooming. I simply don't have a place to put more deep purple varieties.

I would like to offer these to cottage gardeners free. I don't know what postage will cost. Depends on how many to a box and where you live. Lets say I have approximately 50 of these fans. I could make them available to 5 people. Once they are dug I could package an offering and have the USPS figure the cost for shipping.

These are blooming now (in Wyoming) so they are a bit later than my TB irises but still probably an early bloomer. They grow about knee high.

If you would be interested in an offering of APPROXIMATELY 10 rhisomes from this digging let me know. The first 5 emails I get will be in the running. Once I get an offering weighed I can let you know about postage.

I hate to throw these out and don't know anyone here that wants them...I asked all my gardening friends...that's where I got this variety in the first place. They are lovely, they have just multiplied beyond my space allowance.

Email me if you are interested. I will dig them, cut the fans down, pack them and ship them to your location. It will probably be about 2 weeks before the digging.

Since I am in the process of establishing a garden (been here a Year), I would love to have some of your iris. They are such a beautiful purple.

Oh wow..I'd LOVE to have some but I'm in CA..and shipping ANY plant to CA requires a lot of hoops and bells and whistles...but I'll send a link to this thread to a friend in OR who might be able and willing to 'adopt' some of your well-loved kids. :)

I have received a number of emails asking for me to send cuttings ... however, I'm really sorry I cant do that. The postage varies so much and I really don't have time. I am presently bringing so many tropicals to my home I just don't have time. With the holidays and cold weather approching, kids in school and the many pets I have .. I have to admit I have to be one of the worst people to trade with at the moment ... hence the reason I'm not on GW very often. I wish I could find the time to send everyone a cutting however, life just gets in the way

I have an unknown type of lime tree (not a dwarf) planted in an 18-inch clay pot. Received as a housewarming gift in February 2013 from a relative (who lives further south and doesn't garden). I just don't have the time or expertise to invest in this tree. It's in pretty good shape; has never born fruit. You must be able to pick it up from my home in Atlanta (I live close to I-75 in Buckhead) and take it away without my assistance (bad back). Free tree, pot and soil! Total height from bottom of pot to top of tree: 7 feet. (Sorry about the diagonal photo...couldn't fit the whole tree in without turning the camera sideways.)

It's true, though, about Bourbons. I know from photos, that where they're happy, they're happy, but I've never YET met a Bourbon that wanted to live where I live. That's a real pity -- I love their look, but I know when to admit defeat. Still true about the pruning thing. Most of your Austins are budded. Most of the older roses -- are not. And until they build up some substance, pruning is the last thing most of the oldies need.

Well, due to overwhelming response, this offer is now closed. I am glad that folks responded. I hate to toss something so pretty out. While I didn't pay for them they gladly grow and bloom for me. I appreciate their effort and beauty.

I will dig them as soon as they are done blooming. I may have over 50 here. If so I wil extend this to the posters on down the list as quantities allow.

Those are VERY pretty!

For best shipping, trim the fans to about 6"-8" of green. Clean all dirt from the rhizomes (may be washed with a hose), trim away any broken roots, then let them dry for at least a day before you ship them! When shipping, simply wrap them loosely in dry newspaper. They do not need to be mailed "Priority Mail", in the event that "First Class" is much cheaper. They will be fine for a long time like that.

Wish I had seen this post VERY early. lol. They are *BEAUTIFUL* iris!

Let's see how many there are. I have added you and party music to the bottom of my list. I can take no more names. I don't want to give folks false hope about receiving rhisomes. If I end up with enough legitimate plants I would love to trade you.

I appreciate the hints about shipping. That was my plan. That is about how I treat them when I divide them and that's basically what we're doing. I had planned to trim fans, clean and dry. Good to know I was on the right track. Much appreciated.
