Late spring/early summer color

I posted this question mixed in with my photos in the gallery, but thought I would put it here, too.

I realized the other day that my gardens really lack in late spring/early summer color. There isn't much blooming in them right about now, and even less in May.

All I had in May were a few wood hyacinths, iris, lily of the vally, sweet woodruff, and peonies at the end of the month. Then came a few more peonies and dianthus. And just in the past week: veronica, daylilies, scabiosa, nepeta, geranium, mountain bluet, and lots of weeds.

I don't have a lot of space to work with. So I guess I'm looking for something small but with a big impact. Is that even possible? I have hot colors (red, yellow, and orange) in my front garden which gets full sun and tends to be on the dry side; purple/pink/white in another garden which is full sun but moist soil; and mixed colors in the other gardens which range from full sun down to full shade. I need the most help in my front garden (hot colors).

Thanks for your help.

Tracy
