Earthquake hits my home region in Italy.

Please everyone pray for my neice who we cant get a hold of who attends college in L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy. I have contacted most all my family there, but we can't get her. We are from the same region in Italy ( Abruzzo) different province (Chieti), but it was much devistation all over the region. My heart is very sad now. Ciao :(

I hope everything is well. hopefully you can't get a hold of her because of lines being down. my prayers with you and your family, and please keep us updated once your are able to reach her.

I'll take the cold over earthquakes and the smog. I was 50 miles from SF in '89' and even though it didn't bother me too much my GF was very angry at me for going to the store and leaving her by herself as if I knew it was going to happen lol. A few things fell off the shelves at the store but really not a big deal. I was concerned but had I been closer to SF I might have been scared. I would suggest you move east before CA falls in the ocean lol.

Thank you for all the compliments and help! As for soil, it does include some bark components, but is not a specific recipe or anything and does contain some regular soil. Now that I know of some good soil recipes from the forum, I was going to amend it with either the coco-husk or 5:1:1 recipes. Although, it does seem to be doing great in what it is in. Yeah, the only huge lemon I know of is Ponderosa also, so I assume it can or is a Ponderosa. But since every Ponderosa I have seen or grew always fruited when young, I often have wondered if it is not, and maybe some weird Italian native that I do not know of? Mgk65, Thank you! I have learned something new again from you! I really have to find some info about leaf node #s and counts. Hopefully there is a thread here explaining it here in more detail on the forum? So, are the # of leaf nodes to fruit numbers pretty much the the same within one variety? Or, does the # of nodes before fruiting vary greatly even within the same variety? Does the leaf node count apply to just fruiting, or does it apply to when it starts to blossom also? Does a tree have to have a certain amount of leaf nodes before it just blossoms also? The custom here in my area (Silicon Valley) seems to be found nowhere else in the country: the seller pays for a full inspection, termite report, earthquake report, and even separate pool and hot tub inspections where relevant. Some items found during inspection might be repaired, but not always - this is indicated on a separate form. The seller also fills out complete disclosure forms, and puts everything in a big binder. The binder is readily available during open houses, and most agents upload all forms online for download as well. Buyers rarely pay for their own inspections, but of course there's always the option to do so. I didn't think the pool inspection was complete enough when I bought my current house, so I had another one done. The market had slowed down here late last year and early this spring, but seems to have picked up again this summer. The usual process for a new house on the market is for the sellers to paint/stage/update/landscape ahead of time, sometimes taking months to do this (unless it's a tear-down, then it's sold as-is). The house goes on the market on Thursday, broker tour is Friday, open house is Sat/Sun, offers taken the following Tuesday. My neighbor's house went on the market last Friday; they got 7 offers on Sunday and the "sale pending" sign went up Monday morning. I think the market is heating up again. Even for California, this is an unusual pocket of real estate activity. But like most places, sometimes it's not the price that determines the sale, it's the terms (ability to rent back after close of escrow, in particular). Sellers almost never leave refrigerators, washers or dryers. All of the bathroom mirrors were gone when I moved into my current house. Oh, and it's no longer sufficient to be pre-qualified for a loan; buyers have to come armed with an approved loan application from a lender.

I immediately thought of what Parma said about the european temps this summer when i read your post. I agree, there were good lessons rolled into your experience-- and not that you need my validation, but you made the right decision. I know this is a trip of a lifetime for you-- it wouldnt have been as enjoyable if you werent all feeling great. Hope your daughter is recovering well from the virus and her surgery. Maybe you can do something to whet your appetite in advance of your trip next spring. Maybe plan a trip into the city for an authentic meal. I LOVE Lupa-- one of Mario Batali's restaurants. It is not as upscale as Bobbo but it is a much more relaxed environment and the food is memory making. Of course there are so many great italian restaurants in NYC... many of which are smaller and less expensive. Perhaps you already have your own favorites. Another option I highly recommend is a walking tour of the italian neighborhoods of NYC. Addie Tomei (Marisa's mother) runs Savory Sojourns-- I have been on a few of her tours over the years. She is so vibrant and interesting and KNOWLEDGEABLE. Her tours hit some "must see" sites as well as hidden treasures... and the whole experience is peppered with interesting and entertaining narrations about the life and history of the neighborhoods. It is really a great experience and I think well worth the price (about 150pp). Or.. for a much more modest price, have a family movie night and rent The Big Night or Il Postino or Enchanted April or Under a Tuscan Sun (I didnt love the movie as much as the book-- but still it has gorgeous views of the Italian countrysides). Ciao everyone, thanks for the words, Elena my niece is okay, she was in alot of rubble and has brocken arm and a couple bruised ribs, she is okay though and with the family. Ciao

I know that your niece must have been terrified. It is such a relief to know that she is safe now. I hope the arm suffered a simple break and not a crushing blow.

Nothing on our local news about any earthquakes in Italy of course.

How serious was the broken arm? Is the rest of the family safe?

We finally got news of it two days ago, and yesterday the death toll was said to be 289 and expected to climb.

I am very happy that your niece is OK. I live in an Earthquake prone area also. Southern California. We get earthquakes so often, we just shrug them off. But they tell us, be prepared. One day the big one will come.

I have been to Italy and I am sad for the beauty that has been ruined on some of your treasured monuments. Of course, also sad for the families that lost loved ones. And your niece's broken bone will heal better than before it was broken! Those break healings are strong!

Ciao Everyone, sorry took a while to respond, it has been very hecktic this week with my family here and back home, everyone is very upset and its just not been good, I have been keeping calm because of my baby and it is very hard though. I was going to go back home and figure what to do but my hometown is not damaged much, just minor things, and there isn't much I can do for L'Aquila province, I will like to help but can't, these are my paisani you know and i feel bad, my family has housed a couple Siciliani who have to wait for their families to arrive from Sicily. They really band together and help each other, that is something I have always admired and hope I never loose that. Easter will be sad for many there this year. Ciao.
