Well, here's a few photos of some of my own seedlings.

The first two are Hearts Of Fire x Mal babies.

This one is HOF x Donna's Prayer.

Who would have beleived this outcome...

I know that some of you are saying "What was she thinking?" on some of my crosses. :) Well, I just like to cross the unexpected to see what might happen. It's fun to see the outcome of some of the strange crosses I make. LOL

Jan, Pretty seedlings! My favorite is the first one - it looks huge. I like to try the unusual crosses too...you never know.

DO NOT TRIM, the leaves might be dead but the branches are not, they appear to be fine. The branches, including the leader will send out new leaves. Just plant in ground and watch during spring. If a tree big or small gets too little water or in your case probably overheated (because you watered) it will protect itself and lose its leaves kinda like it's fall. My guess is the soil and pot got too hot, and you might have even scorched it by watering it when it was so hot, instead of allowing the pot to cool down first. Just plant in ground in fall first, then wait till spring to see what branches leaf out, then if you like trim the ones that didn't. If you want, you could mist the branches that have brown leaves on them just to keep them moist till the first frost.

You spend nearly 10 years or more here... I mean, this is where I hang out and the ACS (website) has always been a place to search for cultivar photos, and read an article or two every now and then... Anyways, I needed to do some work and now I don't even remember what I was going to do. It may catch on, I don't know... Dax

tom that mulberry is an interesting shape. I am considering a mulberry tree but want to taste whatever variety before planting since I have room for ONE tree-size object and it must be very worthy. Veggies happening: Neves Azorean Red won my personal contest of biggest tomato. It is de-licious, resistant to whitefly and nematodes...or I just got lucky this time. I've been fooled by tomatoes before :-) Yum and speaking of nematodes the next photo is why all my current tomatoes are in pots. I thought my soil was rich enough (little sand) to avoid the buggers but not so. Several (OK many) of the fall crop just never prospered, and combined with TYLCV just sat there and did nutinh Winter crop started growing and growing in any container I can beg borrow or steal I've been giving plants away and just got a call from one of the charity people who was peeved that the plants got scarfed up when she wasn't in the office so she's picking some up. Volunteers deserve perks too :-) Denise P.S. Later when I can make a list I'll post all the tomatoes tried from fall season and rate them. YMMV. I have many baby fruits on winter tomatoes (or should I call them spring now?) Black from Tula, Omars Lebanese, Galina cherry, Black Brandywine, Snow White (a LOT like Dr. Carolyn), Amish Yellow, Carol Chyko's Paste.

Carolyn: Thanks for responding. I'd love it if you could figure out what's going on. I plan to see if my county extension can help, too, but I can't get to a phone during their hours for a few more days yet. I don't have a measurement for the humidity, unfortunately. I can say that in my house, a drink with ice develops condensation, my hair does not get staticy easily, and when the outside temp is around 20 or lower, my double-hung windows have condensation in a one-inch strip just above the joint between upper and lower windows. Until this week, I had the grow light sitting on a milk crate, so the light was hitting the plants from straight-on, sunset style. I finally got my ceiling beams located and some hardware installed and the light has been pointing down for about 4 days. It was when I moved things around in order to hang the light that I saw the white patches and how bad the aphids were in some spots. I've been spraying with soapy water so much now, the humidity may have increased! (Only one tomato had a lot of aphids, but I'm spraying that guy and all the non-tomato plants twice a day now) Thanks a lot for any help you can give, zeke

I really love the color of that first one. SA x LOH is very pretty too with the lighter colored sepals and the midribs. Have to confess to making some unlikely crosses myself and for the same reason you gave. This years Pink Lemonade Party x Shamrock Shore cross should be amusing.

Your pics have me chomping at the bit to see what shows up in the seedling bed here this year.

Jan.I like all of them, but favorites are the first 2. also Strawberry fields forever and Ed Brown.I like that one alot, too.

Jean wrote exactly what I was going to say. Great minds think alike. LOL The first seedling looks large. Did it take on Mal's big size? The second one is such an interesting color. Would you call is coral red?

Debra, the first one is large like Mal and gorgeous in person too. I think I'd call the 2nd one a watermelon red :) what do you think? It's large too.

Oooh, Jan! Beauties! I like the last one, Another Distraction x Chartered Course, the best ~ just luscious.
The fancy HOF x Donna's Prayer kid reminds me somehow of Playing With Sharks, one of my favs.

Very nice. The first two are my favorites too. I have some Mal seedlings that should bloom this year. Hope they are as nice as yours.

How did I miss this post? You have a TON of very promising seedlings -- I'd be thrilled if they were blooming in my garden.

It's hard to pick favorites, but I'd have to go with HEARTS OF FIRE X MAL #1, BANGKOK BAY X ED BROWN and MY SPECIAL ANGEL X LIGHT OF HEAVEN. The color on all three is terrific.
