That is a pretty one, nice pic too. I have scapes on MM also and that is so exciting to see ones that haven't bloomed for a few years. Sounds like you are in for a good season!! I do want to see Meet Joe Black and Stenciled Impressions, I just planted SI and doubt I will get a bloom this summer. So I will look forward to your pics.

Judy - Our basement flooded, but the gardens didn't. The only daylily casualty was a scape on Crazy Ivan that subsequently blasted last weekend when we had several inches more rain. The basement is still drying out. We had two feet of water down there and bailed water for about seven hours so we wouldn't lose our furnace and water heater. Most of my neighbors and co-workers lost major appliances like those. Two of the women I teach with lost their homes. It was a very surreal experience, and it will take Nashville months to fully recover.

That one is a beauty! And the video I was sent by a friend was so to the point. Nashville took care of itself! It will surely take at least months to recover from such a disaster.

Debra, Thanks for mentioning the daylily scape blasting. I have one cultivar that has suffered this, and didn't know what it was. I googled it following your post, and identified my problem. Susan

Debra, I am SO glad to hear you are ok and had no major damage. The damage in Middle TN is so unbelievable. A friend I taught with at one time lost her car, her condo and most everything and she is doubtful that she will be able to recover financially. There are many, many tragic stories regarding this disaster. Many hundreds of homes were flooded even though they were not in a flood plain and therefore the owners had no flood insurance. FEMA relif doesn't begin to cover the damages. Meanwhile, people have to take out a loan to finish repairs, while they are still paying the mortgage and for the loan on the car that was flooded and now need to buy another car. The way people have pulled together and helped neighbors and strangers is so awesome. That is why TN is called the VOLUNTEER state.

Ann - Did you have any flooding? I know some parts of Williamson County were very hard hit. We are lucky that our place is on high ground, since we are only two blocks away from a creek that flooded and five blocks from the Cumberland River. We only lost some items stores in our basement, so we were very lucky. You are right about some people being in serious financial difficulty now. I have two very good friends who lived in Bellevue condos, which were in a flood plain. One is being denied building permits to rebuild her gutted condo, and the other can't rebuild until the owners of the condo complex do work on the structural elements. Both are having to live with friends and relatives for awhile.

I know I appreciated the help from my neighbors. Two young men spent a long time helping us bail the water. None of us had pumps, and no place nearby had any to sell. If they had not helped us, the water would like have risen four or five feet.

So nice to see your first daylily bloom of the season. Sounds as if you are going to have the best daylily bloom season ever this year. Bet you are so excited and can't wait. Glad to hear your furnance is ok, those things are really expensive to replace.

That is a good picture, Debra. So sorry about all the flooding. I am sure it is a mess and my heart goes out to your fellow teachers.

Whhat a beautiful bloom.I have had mine several years and it hasn't ever had a bloom that pretty, yet.I am so sorry about that flood there and so many folks lost their belongings.Its very sad, but,every one can rebuild slowly.

Lovely first bloom, Debra, and I'm glad to hear you're comparatively unscathed by the flooding. We had a close call w/that four years ago, and moved our major appliances out of our walk-out basement. Six more inches of water in the ravine next to us and we would have been bailing too.

Glad to hear things are somewhat back to normal for you and hopefully for others to get some relief.

Last summer we had so much rain that scapes on dls that never blasted did. I was trying to tape them as I saw the cracks begin. It worked to keep them together so they could bloom but the scapes were huge! Too much rain and those dls were just drinking it up.

Debra, we had no damage here. We are close to the Harpeth River but are on high ground. We couldn't leave for a few days because any way out of our subdivision eventually meant we had to cross the Harpeth and it was flooded everywhere. I feel very fortunate to have only lost a few strawberry plants and a little mulch. MM is scaping for me, but no bloom on it yet. Daylily blooms are starting, though - had a couple today and expect about 5 tomorrow. I look forward to your pictures this summer.

Julia - I never thought of trying to tape the scape where it was blasting, I should have tried. That Crazy Ivan scape was bulging with buds.
