Abies koreana seed source?

Hi all. Does anyone know of a good mail order source for Abies koreana seeds? I would like to try growing a few next spring in containers but can't seem to find any dealers in the US. I only need a small supply, about 50 or seeds would suffice.

i walked out into the yard.. in the rain .. just for you ...

i have 25 to 50 cones on A. k. ... browning .. right now.. and one big ugly spider ...

i also have 2 to 4 cones on A. k. Silver show .... but i didnt walk out there to make sure .... at one time... one producer was saying silberloche .. came true from seed .. so if you grew these.. you will probably get a %'age of the curled leaves that show the undersides ... though i would argue they arent true to name ....

soooooooo .. why dont you drive over here and get them .. lol ...

i do NOT know proper harvest time ....

Also, Treehaven Nursery in New York will sell a minimum order of huge seedlings (1 foot or there and beefy big-time) for 36 bucks. I almost died when I got my firs from them. The best deal on a seedling I've ever seen. You can afford that!

They are supplied from an Oregon grower. Just amazing stuff. I think I figured it to be 1.39 cents a piece.

I looked at a few online seed sources by so far no luck. Most tree seed dealers seem to either not carry Korean fir seeds or don't have any in stock this year. Had no idea they were so hard to find! Regards, Dave

Thanks for the reply Dax. Yes, hungry deer will eat anything, and any species of conifer is a possibility for browsing. Just a chance we all have to take I guess. BTW, I looked for a mail order source for a species Abies koreana but all I could find were either small bareroot stock or very expensive cultivars. Anyone know of a good mail order source? I doubt I'll be able to find any specimens at my local nurseries. Thanks! Dave

I'm glad you're glad. It's very much an academic point to me anyhow, as, very unlike the case with rhododendrons, I seldom see how such crosses are improvements over the parent species. (The main thing you need to improve on with alpine Abies is their weak root system in hot climates, a problem more easily resolved with grafting.) And especially the wondrously subtropical-looking Abies pindrow. I can't imagine how this hybrid of it would be interesting to me...except academically. I was aware of it after all! In a big field of many conifer cultivars at the late lamented (by me at least!) Dilworth Nursery in Oxford, PA, the Abies pindrow really stood out from the pack. I kick myself for not taking a picture of that one, but of course I had no idea the nursery would be gone in less than a year. I guess they were too proud to announce to a potential customer that they were about to go under. Of course, I was crestfallen back in the early 2000s when they converted to wholesale - had they stayed retail/mail order, I no doubt would have bought many plants there over the years when I started my current garden in 2006. By the time they went back to retail sales in 2012 as a last ditch effort to stay in business, I already had a lot of what they were selling.

"It should have a leader, however..." Not necessary, I've seen several specimens which doesn't have a leader and are flat growing. Rispetto's specimen could be a 'Silver Show' as well. The cone colour will make the difference...

Dave,
Schumacher will sell you a trial packet for $3 that should have 25+ seeds in it. They list A. koreana. They do have an additional fee for small orders (You have to call to order but they are easy to deal with and take credit card. Most things I have ordered have had good to excellent germination. Struck out on some acers though
