On one hand I find it very good, that Edwin knows what plants were renamed at his german friend by the times. Thats very good to make problems clear. On the other hand I also think, if we had breeders or authors, who are able to give names in situ, without later change, our work should have been much more easier in following conifer history. By this way I like sometimes Edwin for these infos. I m fighting since 30 years with authors, who name their plants HB 1, WB 2, WB # 145, HB 28 and so on. Even the bests are able to kill their plants with unuseful names. The most tragic story is the Horstmann's. Everything is full with HB names, sometimes HB 5 or 8. By this way without loveable and unsoldable names the Horstmann Heritage is lost for the conifer history. Half of the Jerry Morris Heritage is also lost by numbers. The czech breeders are able to give names in the forest in situ. Why are others not able this? Chub Harper, Joe Stupka was also able to give names in situ, and their hertiage will be not lost. This Abies koreana cultivar isn't a 'Horstmann' but a 'Silberlocke' To be complete: Abies koreana 'Silberlocke', in the past as 'Horstmann's Silberlocke' Abies koreana 'Horstmann'is a complete differend one and is a dwarf seedling selection. Something like 'Wild horses wouldn't drag me back...' Bluespruce may have some bad history. Gordon did say Portland Oregon and the website says originally selected in the US. I just searched for 'Brevifolia' and yes it looks very similar but according to the link below it was found in 1965 at the Jeddeloh Nursery, Germany. This creates a clear contention to Gordon's description. 'Sherwood Compact' does appear on the RHS plant list but only as stated - tentatively accepted name in the RHS Horticultural Database. you are welcome ... hopefully others can define what a soil test is ... INTERIOR browning is normal .. and a lot of what your pix show.. look NORMAL ... ALL CONIFERS shed interior needles ... needles usually ONLY last 1 to 3 years ... some years worse .. based on stresses ... deep flush to undo what you did ???? NO JUST STOP AND WALK AWAY ... stop doing more... trees/conifers just dont need this much love ... the hardest thing is doing NOTHING ... keep it properly watered.. i let my conifers NEARLY dry between waterings .... its not a schedule thing.. insert finger to about 3 inches.. and do NOT water until it is dry or hot at that depth ... mulch well ... i cant see the buds in the pix .... if the buds look good ... and the last 6 inches remains green ... i would call it normal ... i await others opinions ... ken
