Comments (6)ALL INTERIOR BROWNING IS NORMAL ... increased by bad prior winter ... drought ... transplant.. or just because it wants to ... [its cyclical] no 'evergreen' of any kind holds its needles/leaves forever ... the oldest are shed ... and the oldest are inside ... and that is why most evergreens are nudey inside ... all of them ... and to be sure.. they are not hungry ... do not waste time nor money on fert ... i cant see the pic any longer.. but if the lawn is fert'd.. they will get whatever they may need.. and they dont need much .... glad you noticed ... but now.. forget about it ... its all normal ... when the growth points start browning.. Comments (8)hey you planted large transpalnts.. 2 to 4 years to get established.. frankly yours look fine... look to the growth tips... they seem lush and green ... thoug perhaps you dint get A! stock.. they will fill in nicely ... you need to insure they are getting water into the root zone of the transplanted ball .... water as you will.. then gently dig a small hole near one of them.. and see if you are getting water down into the root zone .... if not.. water deeply.. and dont water again until they are nearly dry ... a nice 2 or 3 inches of mulch would also aid greatly in reducing water loss ... you can NOT guess as to whether you are getting water down into the root zone.. FIND OUT!!!! .. without doing too much damage .... mine .. planted at 4 inches.. are going on 15 feet.. 9 years later .. ON YELLOW SAND .... ergo.. your soil is not the issue.. the issue is how water moves thru your soil ... and how you INSURE that the conifer is getting what it needs.. as i said.. NO GUESSING ... ken ps: never ... ever .. do the plant spikes again.. waste of money.. and of no value.. Comments (8)dont confuse its CONES.. with growth points look at a green branch .... they end in green tips ... i think you are looking at groups of cones ... the tag is still on it.. is this a rather large RECENT transplant.. at the links above.. it is repeatedly stated that transplant increases this .... as well as other things i right clicked the links to open in a new window.. and they did not enlarge.. but when i just clicked them.. they opened large in a new window .. go figure.. learn something new every day .. lol ken...See MoreGreen giant arborvitae help
Comments (14)Peeing would not account for the glassy paleness of the remaining green foliage. Nor for conspicuous yellowing > browning extending up the center of some of the trees. Also a dog would not go along the entire row and pee on every tree, all the way around each one, and cause entire large sections to go completely dead after a few months. This is a watering issue, considering the seasonal timing - and general appearance of the trees - very likely not enough. Otherwise over-watering may be possible. If I am seeing a soaker hose or drip line and that is all you have been using it may not have been enough for newly planted specimens. Until newly installed plants root out well what needs to be monitored is moisture conditions inside the original root-balls. If you have instead been only looking at the soil around them up to this point then you may be in for a surprise....See Morebryant123
