Looks more like a Picea glauca 'Cecilia' to me...

but Picea sitchensis came to my mind ....

the one i have is Picea sitchensis 'Papoose'

For me, Bakeri has been a slightly slower grower than Hoopsi or Fat Albert, and a lot narrower, but it has the same bright blue needles. But it too in time will outgrow your space requirements in height. R H Montgomery is a squattier form. Begins as a globe and then sends up a leader. Much slower growing in height but will be as wide as the others mentioned. It's a shame Sester Dwarf is not over there. More of a steel blue color but as a true dwarf it is much slower growing and could stay almost indefinately in your space. Blue Mist is an interesting cultivar. The blue is a little more intense and darker than the others above and it's shape can be a little more unconventional. But a pretty tree and will definately stay small enough for the space. Two other true dwarf sized trees in the traditional bright blue color are Donna's Rainbow and Copeland. Donna's Rainbow is a shorter more compact grower and Copeland is taller and more narrow and open branching. Hope you find something to work in your space. mark

you are welcome... lol there is a reason its called enabling.. not 'being helpful' ... double lol here is the answer.. note the annual growth rate on MD... it went crazy ... after this pic .... even w/o a scale... cant you see the approx 10 inch leader growth the prior spring.. and what.. 8 inch lateral???? that pic is 2009 .. i bet its easily twice as big.. today ... now look at DR ... what do you see.. 3 to 5 inch leader growth??? ... this is.. and always will be.. a squat little pungens ... so the equation seems pretty simple to me.. how much space do you have... today.. and in 10 years ... ken ps: i am sad to see colby in the pic .. he is gone... and this must be one of the first pix i posted since he left us a year back or so ... and God help me.. i bet he is in half my thousands of pix... lol .. wonder how he missed the other pix... lol

I have a few more good ones here: Picea pungens 'RM 203' Jerry Morris Red Mountain, Colorado. A place where many brooms were found, evidently. Picea pungens 'Edit' "aka 'Edith' -- written as exactly from Porterhowse Nursery Availability. I'm sticking to 'Edit' sorry guys -- Don Howse is just one of those special people like Edwin/coniferjoy is. He's an American Authority as is Bob Fincham and when Bob tells me he had lunch with Dr. Barabit and that Edit was his wife's name and that the plant was named by Dr. Barabit for his wife, I'm going to have to go with Bob on this one all the way. Stephen, of course you know all that but others may not. The RHS info sucks because they don't have real plant experts in conifers and their cultivar names, this is what Lawrie and Derek told me 2 years ago during the Poland/Czech Republic fieldtrip with the Dutch-and British conifer societies. (The late Lawrie Springate was working for the RHS and Derek Spicer is the BCS Chairman) That's why they asked me to help them with their new up comming conifer book. Also this "glauca" part was mentioned then and after I explained the whole situation, the decission was taken that the glauca part must stayed involved. It's quite simple, in the past the 'Glauca Globosa' was written as Picea pungens forma glauca 'Globosa' This row of names was way to long so they shortened it in Picea pungens 'Glauca Globosa'. They did this with all the forma glauca cultivars which had a Latin cultivar name, it was still clear that this one was blue needled... The "glauca" part have to be in the cultivar name for clearification of it's colour. For example Pseudotsuga menziesii which also does have a f. glauca group. There's a 'Glauca Pendula' and a 'Pendula'. If the glauca part should be removed then there are two 'Pendula' cultivars from which you can't see by it's name if it's the blue or the green one... No, it's not a Picea sitchensis because they've prickly needles which this one have not.
Picea sitchensis does also have a 2 colour effect...

I got it...this cultivar is 'Hillside'.

I still think is a Picea glauca cultivar because of it's typical needles, needle colour and buds.

However, I found a pic on the internet of a Picea pungens 'Hillside' which is quite simular to your plant.
I put this pic at the link.
This pic doesn't show me that this is a Picea pungens...
It would be interested to read Stephen's and Clement's comment about my thoughts...

Btw Will, how did you come to your conclusion, did you found an old tag?

I looked at all the other Picea pungens and glauca cultivars that the vendor had and did googles searches to get a match. I then called them and they said it could possibly be 'Hillside' as that is another plant they grafted at the same time as 'Montgomery'. They ruled out 'Cecilia' since they haven't grafted it...but didn't rule out a glauca cultivar.

Thanks for your help to get a name on this little guy.

Furthur investigation revaeled that my friend Bob Fincham also have this plant under Picea glauca 'Hillside'.
He's a well known U.S. conifer specialist and he knows what he's talking about...

Yep, it does have all the characteristics of a Picea glauca cultivar and not of a Picea pungens cultivar...
