Some Friday blooms

The daylily I'm most excited about today is this four-year old extra early purple seedling. It's improved so much from previous seasons! Every scape has four-way branching this time, and most of the scapes have a bud count of 23. The scapes have also gone from 24 inches to 29 inches this season. I'm so glad I didn't cull it last year. The blooms have great color, and they're sunfast and rainfast.

QUEEN OF NARNIA is a new one. It's supposed to be a near white, but it's no Last Snowflake.

Oh Debra, the EE seedling is beautiful. Sometimes EE makes pretty babies but yours is exceptional. Blue Eyed Bandit is a lovely one too. Since this is ffo, the next ones should be knockouts. I enjoyed the show!!! Ellie

Wow! That seedling is definitely a keeper. The color is nicely saturated and I'm a sucker for a green throat.

Thanks everyone. Natanya, it may be hard to tell anything about Bus Stop & Mormon this year. They were planted last fall. Bus Stop doesn't have a lot of buds one it & only 2 fans, but the blooms so far have been lovely despite the rains we've been having. No blotchiness or anything. Mormon is blooming on really short scapes, barely off the ground. I'm sure it will be better next year, but according to Tinkers it is only 1'8". Very large flowers & very pretty I think. Last year I wouldn't have recommended Hint of Blue just because it didn't bloom & looked like it really should have. It has gone from 2 teeny weak fans to 12 very huge fans since I got it spring of 08. Lots of buds & all are opening up well.

Thank you Debra.I love this Torenia plantI use to have one years ago,and forgot to bring it in the first winter I had it and thought it had died, but, in the spring I found a bunch of little plants coming up and gowing, but,I finally had lost all of it,so I was very happy when I found a plant at our local nursery that only opens up a few months each spring.its a member of the African violet group, but,it tolerates a little sun very good.Thanks for your comments on the daylilies. MANTIS: yes the TORENIA plant tolerates heat very well, just not a lot of hot sun, but it does like a little sunshine.Have to be careful with the watering and not over water it.Thats how I have killed several of them, over watering.let it dry out before watering again.and yes,it does like a little early morning sunshine or late evening.just not in the hottest part of the day,it needs in the shade, then. This little kitty can be just a barrel of laughs..Every morning when it hears my front door unlock and open, it just comes from out of no where, just jumping up and down like a bucking horse, and it sits there waiting for its food it knows I am bringing. it sits there looking up at me,and moving b ackwards each step I make.It wants to be first to get its head in the bowl to eat, as the mother is always waiting by the step each morning, too.Shes wild and wont let me get too close to her, but, shes very pretty grey tabby. jean

Question? How do you get the labels on those photos? no fancy c amera or softwarer. I have windows 8 on my pc, and I had this one windows 7 also, your pictures go into MY PICTURES on your computer, open the file, to line the pictures out, then open each picture with "Paint: and it has a way to print the names on them. you can pick the colors you want, too, you can do lots of difernt things with "paint" RITA, this wonder of it all is a bloom machine. never seen a daylily that loves to bloom like this one,and almost every bloom is perfect too.I was hoping it would stop putting out so many blooms at once and it last longer, but, it keeps putting out more and moreI don't know why you got rid of it, but I am very thankful you sent it to me, because I love this daylily so muchI love the ruffles on it,and the color of it too.and it reblooms, too.I seen 3 little rebloom scaped on it this morning, they are very small but its has them. I shovel pruned Happy Returns today. I still have another clump of it elsewhere so I haven't given up on it yet. The foliage looks awful and it didn't even attempt to rebloom this year. I moved Final Touch yesterday to the front. I have no problem moving a clump of blooming daylilies - I just try not to break the roots when digging them out. Then I water them in really well in their new spot.

Thanks Ellie and Kim for your nice comments about the seedling. The flower is so much rounder and nicer than I remembered. I just can't stop going out to look at it. Those photos were taken early in the morning. The bloom looks more red purple in the midday sun.

That seedling is looking so extra special. Being EE is another plus -- hope it reblooms. And what amazing stats, definitely a keeper. It does pay to wait. And then the plant rewards with its exceptional beauty. Congratulations on a wonderful seedling!

OH MY GOODNESSBLUE EYED BANDIT is a very pretty one, too. I like that QUEEN OF NARNIA, also,I like your Coneflower, too.VERY pretty.

Sorry, Debra but QUEEN OF NARNIA looks light yellow to me, not white at all. BLUE EYED BANDIT looks great though. That seedling looks best of all. I love the deep rich color. Pays to have some patience :-))

Your purple seedling is wonderful! Love the budcount and branching. What size is the bloom?
My first seedlings will be blooming for the first time this year and I can't wait. I have no idea what to expect. Would be thrilled if I could get just one as nice as your's.
They are all pretty, especially like the coneflower.

Hi Debra,

I hope Queen of Narnia whitens up for you. It might take a little bit of heat. I look forward to seeing pictures of this one as the season progresses. Here is a picture from Guidry's Daylily Garden. It looks pretty white there.

Your Queen of Narnia is beautiful, maybe as it matures it will be more like Edwards picture, the yellow edging really stands out on a whiter daylily. Your seedling is lovely & sounds like it is really going to be a worker. My favorite might be Blue Eyed Bandit though, I've really been into the blue eyes the last couple of years. Great picture of the coneflower too

that delicious seedling. Most of the seeds I bought from you a few years ago now have scapes, hopefully I'll have some great seedlings too.

Michelle - The blooms on the purple seedling are in the 5-inch range. Some are 5.5, but most are 5 inches or a tiny bit bigger.

Edward - I ordered Queen of Narnia from Guidry's based on those photos. We've already got the heat here - three straight days at 90. Petit, the hybridizer, says QofN is rust resistant, and I wanted to cross it with Last Snowflake. Plus, I really liked the name Queen of Narnia because I am a fan of the Chronicles of Narnia. I've got to say though that every Petit daylily I've bought has been somewhat of a disappointment. They rarely look anything like his enhanced catalog photos.

Heidi - I hope you get some good ones from my seeds. Post photos if you do. I get a kick out of seeing what they produced.
