OT: My garden helper.

Well, seems like a lot of ya are posting pics of furbabies so I had to chime in too :D My little furbaby is almost 11 years old but still tries to act like a puppy.

Her name is Taz and she's an American Eskimo... not much help in the garden though unless I need some digging done! :D

Thank you everyone for the support! I've passed along your thanks to my brother, who was very appreciative of the gratefulness. My brother actually lives in Europe, so I'm afraid he can't help out all that often at the new place. But I did encourage him to go commune with nature for some peace and quiet. He seemed to like the idea. Vilkas is a handful already! He's incredibly intelligent though and a fast learner. I'm excited to see how him and I will grow together. I'm starting on his training this week, and if all goes well he'll start to learn how to track by the end of June. As soon as the lawn is mowed and everything is trimmed up I'll throw some pictures up here! The spring flush was nothing this year, since not much has been in the ground long enough to so much of anything. It's all growing happily though so I can't complain! Josh

Lovely views!! And beautiful daylilies. Yes, they open new ones every day now, so exciting. I like Raspberry Fantasy, Beautiful Edgings and South Seas the most. My Strutter's Ball was doing great until I divided it this year. What an adventure for your little Babe.. Poor thing. I hope he'll now be afraid of that or any other big trees! His twin brother Max here climbed.. me the other day. I sure was scared it happened so quickly! Thankfully the scratches on the chest, neck and head were minor, but I was in a kind of shock for hours.

More like plant killer than a helper! I can only imagine what my yard would like like without him...yet, I can't imagine my life with out him! He's my partner in crime! This is Jasper. I adopted him from the Humane Society at the age of 1.5 & he will be 5 in Dec. He is a mix of White German Shepherd & Pointer. I've gotten really good at throwing the frisbee so he doesn't end up in my garden. The neighborhood kids is another story. He is really good at keeping ALL varmints out & 90% of the time misses every plant on his way to them. My most ironic story is before I got him I never had an issue with rabbits. One fall he caught 1 & killed it. Horrifying listening to that squeal & bones crunching. I couldn't get it away from him & like an idiot called him in the house. He comes in WITH the dead rabbit & plops up on my bed! EEEWWWW! I got him locked up & had to deal with the warm & very flippy floppy rabbit. Ever since, the rabbits have taken revenge on my yard! He WAS trained to stay out of everything that was mulched & that got kaboshed when I realized he needed some shade in the heat of summer. I redesigned a corner of my yard to lead a path under the Japanese Maple to give him some shade. Just recently he has acquired a secret admirer that lives on the other side of that fence...a female Yorkie name Nala that tries to escape to be by him. ="" ="" PS: What size should these pics be so they don't appear so big?

Your new helper is beautiful! That brings back fond memories for me. I had a lop eared rabbit when I was a kid. I loved that bunny (violin music playing in the background) hehe. I remember my mother using the poo in her flower beds. She never composted it first, and I don't recall her having any issues doing that. However back then I had no interest in gardening so I probably wouldn't have noticed if she did. As medontdo suggested I would check at the Soil/Compost forum. I've also read somewhere about people setting up some kind of worm farm/vermicomposting underneath rabbit cages. So, that may be something you might try.

Thanks for the compliments.. she's a big suck! I have to bathe her again as the skunk smell still isn't out of her fur and it's been three weeks!! Got some more of the deoderant soap that smells MUCH better than skunk! LOL

I've never seen her smile..

Cheryl, I have heard that some bath them in tomato juice for the smell. Not sure how much it helps. Very pretty doggy tho.

I've also heard and used the tomato juice and Irish spring soap to bathe them in... it worked on my black dog.. but can you imagine what my pure white puppy would've looked like?? I don't think DH would like having a pink dog!! LOL

We used a mixture of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide (the type used for cuts and stuff) and dish soap.... worked like a charm and brightened her coat. The only reason she still has the smell is because she got sprayed in the face and I couldn't wash around her eyes and mouth without making her sick so I was hoping it would wear off.. but every time she gets her muzzle wet the smell is still there. Going to wash her with the deoderizing doggy shampoo and make sure I wash her well this time.

I hadnt heard of the baking soda and peroxide mix, I will keep that in mind. It should be safe to use on the face tho, you can gargel with peroxide and water, brush your teeth with baking soda paste.I have used bottles of peroxide in my pond to keep down algae. But I know it is terribly hard to wash their faces and get them rinsed.We have 2 maltese.
