I have a scape!! Does it count?

I received my last order from Daylily Manor, once again, great plants, all were literally clumps, two bonus plants that were on my wishlist, and free shipping! I even used my AHS voucher. It was 'fan'tastic. More than half of my order had scapes, you can see them soaking in the buckets, So does this count? HAHA

Making great progress on my new bed. Went to a very large garden center today, totally crowded cause of Mother's day being tomorrow, but a great time was had by all. No daylilies bought, but lots of companions.

I would think it counts, after all they are in your possesion now. Love your gardens, Very pretty,and if I lived there,I be sitting on the bank with a fishing pole in my hand...

I love your garden, too! How did my cat find your house though? Well, never mind....

I've gotten scapes on orders, too, but my transplants have never been able to support them to blooms. The plants put their energy into roots, I think, and that's probably best in the long term. Now, I have had scaped plants that lost it, and then bloomed in November, so even if theses scapes decline, it's a great sign of a healthy, vigorous plant.

I cut my fattest garlic scapes into little pieces, blanch them in steam until they change colors, and freeze in little bags so they are ready to use from the freezer. I like them better than either onions or garlic in egg dishes, and my newest trick is to include them in buttered breadcrumb toppings on casseroles. The skinny little scapes from my smaller varieties we use fresh. They will keep in the fridge for a month. Do cut off the flower end, which is too tough to eat and can make refrigerated scapes lose their crisp texture.

Brooks ngraham, I have many peonies but they are just starting to bloom. I bought 3 last year that are puny but will have one bloom, hopefully. The white Iris seedling is almost aggressive. I have given awys tons of it and have 2 clumps like the one I posted. Debra, if you want, I will save you some seed from the Columbines but they will be mixed up. Thank you very much Linda. Rita, that was a drop in the bucket, so to speak. I have La Iris blooming that is very pretty and the Japanese Iris are going to open soon. Oh Thank you all for all of these very nice comments.Every one of you must have wished for rain for me, because late last night and this morning, the rain did fall,Part of my yard was a lake,almost.It rained real close to 3 inches before quitting this afternoon.I just know the daylilies was very happy to have a good drink of water.I didnt check any to see if they got happy enough to push some more scapes up, but, if its not raining tomorrow,I will be checking all of them.My daughter came this afternoon for us to go out to the grocery store,and I told her about the scapes starting in my daylilies,and she looked at me so sad looking and says"I dont have any" I asked if she looked and she said yes,she did,and had nothing.I have a bed thats outside my front yard fence,and everything was so wet,I couldnt go spray everything to keep the deer from eating up everything,so I am hoping they dont hit my flower bed tonight,Not suppose to rain tomorrow, but more tonight, supposely. Your photography and presentation is pretty good. Since you've posted it, I'm going to critique your composition. I'd have used another color and shape in place of the elongated scallions, as you already have the elongated shape and color in the scapes. Your lighting is good, as you've captured the nice shine of the sauce (arrowroot produces a shiny sauce). The mushrooms kind of got lost in the sauce, though. If they were cooked less, they would stand out more. With food photography, there's always a fine line between not enough and too much garnish. I would think (you would have to try it and see) a third color would add significantly to the appeal of the dish (but lose the scallions - they don't add anything). Even chopped parsley would give it a little boost, even if it didn't add any color. The green and brown need something, although I'm not sure what. There are some great online food photography courses. Overall, it's a nice presentation. bk

I saw scapes today on two of my newly planted daylies that were ahead of schedule from us here. I say they count. After all, they are there!!!

I would love to go to the nursery but am avoiding it this entire weekend as they are a crowded frenzy on Mothers day weekend.

I love your extended beds both your older sections with all those lovely daffs and tulips and the newly done parts with the daylilies.

I don't know what your secret is for daffs, my daffs are long done blooming but my tulips are still going strong.

Such a beautiful setting. Those daffs are really pretty.

And those scapes definitely count! Looks like nice healthy clumps to support them.

I think your cat is eyeing its next meal. LOL.

I had to cut off so many scapes from incoming plants just so I didn't stress them before planting. Several have already got new scapes on but I just can't bring myself to cut them off again.

I didn't even noticed that my cat 'bowie' was in both pics. He is always following me when I'm outside, always wanting to know what I'm doing. anyway, no secret with the daffs, the ones in the picture are a double daff named 'Manly' I also have the double Tahiti, The doubles are great because they are a later blooming daffodil and you can get a very long daff season with them. Only trouble with them is sometimes if you have a cold snap when the buds are forming , they don't open well. Only had a few this year that did that.

I'd say they count! Looks like those fans barely know they are out of the ground! Your beds are looking lovely, and I love that your cat follows you around where ever you go. Too cute!
