I also like certain daylilies. I find that sometimes for me it is less about the flowers than about some other traits.

This year it is "grassy" foliage that stays neat. I have some daylilies where the flowers are fabulous but the foliage is a bad hair day every day. Since I want some at the front of new retaining walls, I want nice foliage.

nocturnal, early blooming, super late blooming, longest blooming, re-blooming (most re-bloomers don't bloom again for me?), species, scented - these are some of the thinks I look for.

And sometimes of course, it's the flower color :)

I have never found daylily folliage particularly attractive and I have hundreds of daylilies. But the flowers are usually really very, very beautiful. A mass planting of a daylily bed just looks stunning in bloom.

Just wait - soon you'll have the campanula crazies, then hosta crazies, then sedums, then . . . It never ends. I have a new love affair every year. Last year it was campanulas, not sure what bug will bite me this year.

I will never get the hosta crazies. I go to the nurseries and rarely see any I like. Although I do have afew hosta in the garden.

I do love sedums but only the upright ones, not the low growing or creeping kinds. I have had many sedum here for years and this spring added multiple plants of three different new ones here. But not enough to qualify as the crazies LOL :-))

You need to annex the neighbors property. Then you could really go crazy.

I understand totally. I think my body was occupied by an alien life form a couple days ago, because I ordered almost a hundred new daffodil bulbs. All I can say to explain is I was lurking on the daffodil forum and struck by the absolute "must haves" for a couple of the pictured varieties.

Along I went to Brent and Becky's and bingo! I bought em. Ah well, I have a new cottage bed that will need bulbs too.

Ha, you don't know how envious I am of my neighbors large sunny lawn. Oh well, we have what we have and I enjoy my garden big or small.

I don't even count the spring bulb crazies. I have well over 300 tulips and 190 or so fancy daffs coming from Brent and Beckies this fall.

Kay, you have all those new gardebeds you have been creating this spring. So you must have lots of room for those spring bulbs.

I just ordered Woodfield hybrid Lupines at Bluestone. I haven't seen them anywhere else. Placing them was a challenge as they are somewhat tall. But I thought about it overnight and went out to the spot I had in mind today and realized that yes, it would work.

The clincher was that the plants were on sale at half off. So I ordered nine of them.

They are going in the wider bed in back of the garage. They will go in front of that very back row of serviceberry shrubs that are back there and in back of the two rows of daylilies. So they will be inbetween. It will actually look very, very good.

You know I have these lupine cazies really bad. And I know that this will not be the end of it.

LOL!!! Rita, I have been having so much fun reading your posts about your love-affair with so many different groups of perennials. Sometimes I think some folks (non-gardening) really do think we're crazy when we have to have a gazillion of something in every color, but fortunately so many of us on this forum completely understand, get the crazies as well and root you on!!! What fun!!!!!!!

I want my yard to have something (lots of something) always blooming. I love lots of color. But then sometimes I discover something new to me, like the lupines, that I just have to have a zillion of. I know I am hopeless but I like it that way LOL :-))

thyme2dig- Your making me laugh but it really is true.

My little lupines came from American Meadows today and I immediately implemented my plan of putting them between the lily clumps in that little garden. So they are planted.

Considering that garden had nothing really early this spring except those daffoldils way in the back, it has really come together nicely. And this is so much better than just sticking in a cosmos plant, the lupines will grow and will not need to be replanted. The lilies will be between them, even when they get bigger. I still have cosmos there for summer color, they are just in front of everything. It all turned out great.

Unlike destructive things like drugs and booze, being addicted to gardening is very healthy. Aren't we all supposed to get off the couch and start on physical activities? Well, I may be a couch potato in the winter but come summer I have no time to lay around on the couch LOL!

Kay, I agree with a 12-step program. In fact, I've gone as far as the first step - admitting I have a "problem". I just can't seem to get past that step! It happens to be a "problem" I am not looking to "fix"!!! LOL!!

Here are some of those WOODFIELD HYBRIDS from Bluestone growing today. They are doing really well and seem to really like were they are planted. In fact they have taken off much better than the ones I got from American Meaows that are planted in another garden.
