Rec. DLs from North Country Daylilies today

I received my DLs from North Country Daylilis today and I could not be more pleased. I wish I would have found this vendor sooner. Melanie is great to work with, and I chose as my bonus extra fans, and I sure did get them. The fans are great, especially coming from the North, the roots are a mass, not a couple little strings, the fans have a beautiful green color, and they look very healthy.

Here is what I got - Pink Fanfare, Lavender Lion, Juliette Whatley Memorial, Siloam Coopers Chantilly, Jean Ivelle, and Border Sentry.

I just had to share when I found a great vendor, strictly by chance, when I was hunting lavender DLs on the web. I checked at WatchDog, and she had all great reviews.

If I can convince my DH to let me dig up more lawn, I am going back for more. : )

I've looked at her website. She has some lovely intros of her own also, doesn't she? It's good that people are starting to breed more dl's for the north. I won't be ordering any of hers, however, since I'm down here in the hot south. They probably wouldn't like it here. :)

I have three of her intros and they do exceptional in my garden. My favorite is Time Warp.

pnwjoy, My sister lives in Longview WA. It's my first year to order DL too. I see we have some of the same cultivars. I'll be interested to see how they do in your climate so I'll know whether to share with sis or not. Here are my new dl. Hardiest Daylilies for the North?

Hi all... Hope this spring is getting warmer for all of you... A shout out to xtreme gardener... how are your daylilies doing? Hope they're all coming up! I just wanted to mention that all of the cv's I'd purchased last spring have come back, even though they were still in pots buried up to their rims in the ground... and at least 80% of my seedlings have come back too,(170 of them) even though they were only actually planted in the ground in Oct... I covered them all with some used carpet underlay as a mulch, I had from my neighbour that fit perfectly... we had the worst case senario last winter... very little snow and very below normal weather in Dec.. it was Dec. the 4th and only a couple of inches of snow, when the temp dropped to minus 34 Deg Celcius... I think most of those seedlings were saved by that quarter inch of carpet underlay.. lol... now I'm afraid to NOT use it everywhere...lol...anyway... I've got close to 800 seedlings this year that I have to build a new bed for...and another 75 or so new cv's to add to the list...not saying that the ones that made it through will be hardy forever or everywhere, but at least they are all still alive.. lol... :-) Happy gardening, Rob

I have been buying from Melanie and North Country daylilies for years. Only instead of her plants she grows for resale, I always buy either her own intros or those of Bryan Culver which she sells. Great plants that are great doers in the garden. Plus great quality and very generous as you said and showed. I love North Country daylilies. Your plants look fabulous. I am sure they will take off right away and grow like well for you. No wimps allowed in Melanies Garden :-))

Julia, it really is amazing, isn't it? Last night I was looking for more Bob Carr tetraploids. I'm assuming the ploidy makes a big difference in vigor. That is Salvia farinacea aka Mealy Cup Sage and Victoria Sage. It's a really nice, non-invasive salvia here that doesn't get big and obnoxious AND it returns next year after the freezes kill it to the ground. Jane, I also received my order from NCD yesterday, and was awed at the huge clumps of fans and roots! It was my first time ordering from her, and I WILL order again....always looking for sturdy Northern grown plants.

Received: Gold Embriodery, Tropical Depression, Francis of Assisi, Waves Become Wings, Techny Peach Lace, and bonus Esther Gelade.

Shive, I don't know why Melanie doesn't answer your e-mails. Could it be possible she's extremely busy at this time of year? I think I ordered mine in January.

I've not had any issues with receiving emails from her. I have a trip coming up to Warrensburg in June, and have my catalog marked & ready to go. DH may not like it, but I'm GOING! He can babysit by the pool while I go DL shopping!

mmqchdygg if you want certain daylilies from Melanie email her to see if she still has them and can hold them for you,
She often sells out of some cultivars early. I email her in very early in the year for the cultivars I want. I recently recieved my order from her as always very healthy fans. This is my second year buying from NCD and I will continue buying from her as she is in the same zone I know they will be hardy here.

Shive I never have a problem with emails to NCD I would try again otherwise her phone number might be listed on the NCD website.

Thanks for the input on how to contact her. I tried to order one of her intros two years ago in January and February. I emailed her three times but got no response. I even used two different email accounts thinking maybe the emails were going to her junk mail accounts. This year I've already ordered more daylilies than I can get planted. Maybe I'll try again next year.
