JAKE: A Canine Love Story

There is a beloved dog that has been missing since 12/29/08. Here he is, Jake, a German Shepard/Lab/Hines 52, 3-4 years old weighing in at 50 pounds.

His curly tail is his most distinguishing feature in case you missed that Pepi la Pew stipe down his face featured above.

One more shot of him smiling from his backyard in Atlanta...

Jake came to Florida for the holidays with his peeps and dog sister Lucy. Lucy steals the attention because she's just so darn cute. Jake is memorable though: a sweet, sweet lover boy with very nice manners. He is the very first dog of a lovely ten year old girl.

Both Jake and Lucy are rescues.

Jake and Lucy were in the fenced yard of a friend's home in Wingrove subdivision (Conroy Street) of Orlando at 5:25 p.m. on Dec. 29. He was noticed missing at 5:30 p.m. A relentless search and rescue mission commenced until after midnight.

It is presumed that Jake wriggled his way between the fence post and the house in hot pursuit of a squirrel or anole. (Jake never met a Cuban anole until his Florida visit, and found them quite irresistable!)

Jake's peeps HAD to go back to Atlanta. But Jake's Dad loves him so much that once he deposited his wife back home safely, he drove back to Orlando. First, Jake's dad had Kinko's make a giant sandwich sign with a Jake photo and pertinent info. Dad's plan was to skateboard up and down the streets of Orlando with the giant sandwich sign while tacking up fliers and whistling for Jake.

The Orange County Humane Society has been contacted. Posts were made on the lost/found pets internet pages for Orlando.

Jake's peeps are very responsible dog owners. He bears a tag on his brown leather callar with his vet's telephone number and his home phone number. He is pictured above collarless, but is bearing that collar right now. He is microchipped, and the company that chipped him has already been notified, alerts have been sent nationwide.

Jake is allergic to most foods. His hair will fall out in clumps if he eats the wrong food (which he'll only do if he's starving, according to his mom). Poor Jake has already suffered through two knee surgeries. He only needed one, but an Atlanta vet did surgery on the wrong knee on his first operation. Rather than take a risk with the vet who performed that erroneous operation, Jake's peeps changed Veterinarian's for the second operation (even though the first one said he'd do it for free).

His peeps love him to bits, especially his 10 year old peep girl. Lucy (adopted dog sister) loves him too, and is lost in the world without him, and keeps looking, looking, looking for Jake. Lucy has lost her appetite.

Jake car travelled from Atlanta to Naples to Stuart (our home) to Orlando, so he cannot possibly know how to get home. He must be so mixed up!

If you catch a peek of Jake anywhere, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE call the number on the tag. He's a lover, he will come to you.

Excuse me if I'm breaking a rule, but if you see Jake, call 404-435-5211. That number is posted in the Orlando Sentinal starting tomorrow, because I placed the ad for Jake's peeps. He could be anywhere in Florida though. The shephard in him will send him on a mission home. He could be retracing his travels.

Please wish Jake good Karma, and if you are one who prays, I'd be grateful if you'd add Jake and his peeps to your prayers.
