bluestone perennials sale-must enable!

Bluestone Perennials is having their annual 1/2 price sale. They have quality plants that may look small when they arrive, but grow like gangbusters. I recently planted my latest order, and just sent in another order today because of their fabulous sale. So if this has already been posted, I apologize. but I couldn't resist enabling someone else. I placed my order last week. What did you decide on?

I ordered:
ECHINACEA purpurea Double Decker
DIGITALIS Ambigua
CHRYSANTHEMUM superbum Wirral Pride

I hope the Wirral Pride does well I have wanted it for so long it's not rated for my zone so I thought what the heck 1/2 price if it dies at least I had it for the summer. :)

Did my order over the weekend - have no idea why I felt I needed more 'stuff' but still managed to spend over $70.00.....

Well, no decision as yet! Thanks for giving me your varied opinions of Bluestone. I haven't looked at the big box stores for this particular cultivar; the local nurseries are just starting to get more of their spring stock in and I haven't found it there as yet either, but I remain hopeful. poaky1 - there is nothing on their site indicating that you can order a larger specimen, they are still only showing the $11.95 version. Does the choice come up when you add it to your shopping cart? I'd be happy to spend $19 on a bigger, older plant. The possible lack of root development of their smaller shrubs mentioned by mrgpag concerns me. Holly

My order arrived today. I too love the new packaging. I think the plants are much fuller than they used to be. Sitting on the driveway is: 1 Achillea Red Velvet 3 Anthemis Sancti-Johannis 3 Gaillardia Burgandy 1 Hemerocallis Show Girl 3 Hollyhock Spring Celebrity Lemon 2 Hosta Rainforest Suprise 1 Salvia Black and Blue 6 Viola Lutea Splendens Alina, I ordered a Huechera Obsidian from Bluestome last year and it has more than doubled in size. Wonderful plant. I already have over 20 other plants sitting waiting to be planted. I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend.

If Donahue's clematis are sold by Bluestone and you are getting them for 50% off, then you are getting a great deal for about $6 per plant. My first three viticellas were from Donahues and they did wonderfully well. I got three last fall from Donahues--Royal Velours, Prince Charles, and Carmencita. Potted them up in gallon sized pots and grew them out over the winter and into February when we had a warm spell and I ended up planting them in the ground. Here they are today doing just great. Oh just what I need ENABLING. :-) I'm on my way to town, with a glint in my eye, at the idea of visiting a garden center. Will they have flats of multi-colored dwarf snapdragons? I hope, I hope! Will I be able to find one of those beautiful Lena Scotch Brooms shown on another thread? The treasure hunt is on...

I've seen a few things I like. I've never ordered from them but have heard good things about them over the years. I generally don't do mail order since most things I like are available at local nurseries. But I am sorely tempted! : )

I went locally shopping (well 1 hour drive each way to greenhouses in Sanford, NC) and got anemones (3 colors), chelone, agastache (a new yellow), gaillardia (2 colors), red lantana and annuals for containers and bedding plants, several garden phlox and a few herbs. I had already gone to another local greenhouse where I got annuals (ageratum, fuschia, begonia, impatiens, Persian Shield). Planted a lot of containers today!

So, I need to control myself and not look at Bluestone! :-)

i just went to their web site ~ there are some things on sale for 50% off ~ but not much ~~

when does this sale start & how do you know about it if it's not on their web site? ~ inquiring minds want to know (grin)

Note the original post date of May 27, 2008. Look for the half price sale around the last week of May this year on the website.
