I always like this pathway in the garden: Spirea, bleeding heart, nettle and forget-me-nots.

"Doggie Poo" reminds me of a Turkish Turban - well, some kind of turban anyway. I am still working on my plan for revamping the circular garden like we discussed last year. I hope my boxwoods and topiary turn out half as nice as yours. I found a source of nice (semi-irregular) quarry rocks and am going to haul as many as I can. They are part of an old retaining wall that is crumbling and since I bought the place, I can get them if I want to do so (ha!) That is, if I can heft them. They are just various shades of yellow and red sandstone, but were used back in the 1930s to build houses, stores, banks and other buildings all over Oklahoma. Not sure just yet how I am going to use them, but what a great find. With our snakes here, I wouldn't even try to build a sunken garden like yours, but something along those lines of architectural structure, only above ground. Any ideas? Wish I could root Boxwood. I keep trying, but am not doing something right as they never root. It sure would save me a lot of money if I could. I am very good at rooting Spreading Junipers and Barberry however. (go figure) Your gardens inspire me to do want to do more with mine. In other words, YOU inspire me. ~Annie

Ed Brown's Seedling is not so promising. Even Dr. Blanchard remarked about it's "basically sitting there and doing nothing". Mine has had only three buds this year, which wilt before fully opening. I deadheaded the last so called bloom from it this morning. Will replace it with another variety of that color. I told you my line-up wrong, it should be: a Hypericum (Albury Purple"), Ed Brown's, Appocalypse Now, Stop Light Heucherella, then Clarification daylily(dark pink with purple center). With another Albury Purple Hypericum in the center background of the border. The soil stays very thin and dry in this young border and the plants must compete with ancient lilac shrubs, so I have to make sure it doesn't dry out too much and mulch real well.

Lovely, lovely, Roselee. I had every intention of cutting my climbers back severely last month as the heat had NOT been kind to them, but alas, did not get "round to it", so now my Don Juan is putting on quite a show. Maybe that is why I procrastinated ...think??? Also, my Grandma's Yellow rose, Hot Chocolate, Belinda's Dream, Perfume Delight, Chrysler Imperial, Coral Dawn (a climber I picked up for $4 at Walmart and she smells heavenly), and fianlly, a rose that came from an old farm house down where I grew up..........have no idea what the name is......it is red, gets very large and blooms all year except the very dead of winter. Love that rose.

What you are describing is the air relief valve found on the top of all cartridge filters (and some sand). The standard operating position for this is to be closed completely with no leaking water. When you prime the system you would bleed out the air from here and then close it. No need to leave it cracked open. If the pool system is allowing air back into the lines then this is an indication that the plumbing system has a problem. It could be a teeny tiny problem like a leak at the suction side threaded adapter on your pump...or it could be a leak at the connection underside the pool skimmer. Either way, the current pool owners are aware of this problem as it has manifested itself with the system losing prime / taking in air. They resolved this problem with the turn of a know allowing water (and air) to slowly escape the system via the bleeder valve. In this situation I would monitor the system after closing this valve to see if any problems develop shortly afterwards. A pool plumbing system is a closed look system and should not leak air or water anywhere.

What a pretty walk through your springtime.

What a beautiful garden spot! I am trying to create something similar in feel in the far back end of my yard. Now I will be able to refer to your picture to keep me motivated. I have been hauling rocks all winter from the beaches around here and dumping them at the end of the driveway. Now I am hauling them 2 or 3 at a time by wheelbarrow to the back end hoping and praying the barrow doesn't sink in the soft soil and tip. Very stunning garden picture, thank you for sharing!

Thanks everyone.

min - an old house trailer sat there when I first moved in my house. It was a wreck and I had it hauled out, which left a depression. Over the years, I dug it out (by hand) more and more until I got the look I wanted. It's very small and still a work in progress; but it's getting there.

freezengirl - my days of hauling rocks are nearly over, but my eyes still light up whenever I see a pile of great stones! Instead of a wheelbarrow, you might try one of those hand trucks I think they call them. They have two wheels and stand upright - people use them to move furniture,ect. You'd be amazed at how much weight they can move around. Unless the tires go flat like mine does. :)
Good luck with your project - don't give up, just keep thinking how great it's going to look. And it won't happen in a day, but it will all come together eventually.

Ha, thanks Lass. I don't know why I'm drawn to this type of garden, I try to create as tho things have been there for centuries. But then I like a wild and less formal garden too; so I have both.
