I think your blooms look fine for newly planted lilies. They never look as good the first year as when they are settled in (second or 3rd year). As new plants they have to get established and make new roots, and new foliage.

I agree with Dot. My plants look better and better as time goes by. Colors, form and texture change a lot. Usually for the better. I think your blooms look quite nice. I can't imagine you are having cool weather in Florida right about now (it is Florida, right?), but that always can affect how flowers open.

Thank you, Fairy Soap Girl, for your cheering. Your second bloom is much prettier. But the V.L.second bloom was not as nice as the first. No, it's hot here. It's not going below 70 degrees even in the middle of the night! So we're not having cool any time! The Humdinger was completely open, but doesn't look like the ones online. Well, I'm hoping they will get better and better. I'm excited at how many buds I have on the plants! By the way Cousin Jewel is gorgeous. :) I guess it's not an evergreen, is it?

Your plants look new and thirsty to me. Better not to fertilize them now; wait till it's cooler and they are growing stronger. I suggest putting them on a regular watering schedule. If you have sandy soil, water every morning. Mulch to conserve moisture and keep the root zone cool.

Thanks, Ed. I do have Sandy soil, but the daylilies are not planted in that. (I never plant anything in it.) They are planted with a combination of two kinds of soil from 2 nurseries and some sandy soil for drainage, which was recommended by one nursery as a must for their soil. Because I did not want to overwater, I have shut off the sprinkler system and am turning it on 2ce a week to water. I will water this afternoon. Thanks so much for your suggestions. I don't think anything but cactus and natives could live in my soil.

I think they look fine. As new plants, they do have to settle in. I am on my 4th bloom of Funny Cide and it is still pretty terrible. if you saw my pix of Bird Talk last year, you would know what I mean. The re bloom was beautiful but 1st blooms made me sick. Good Luck!...Ellie

I think you are doing great to even have blooms on such new plants! Many times new plants will drop buds as they settle in. Perhaps yours were lined out and suffered little stress in the moving...and, of course, your settling them in right away and so nicely has surely helped.

Good luck with them...don't worry if every bloom isn't perfect. They need to adjust to their new home!

Even on established plants not every bloom is "perfect". Every bloom is unique.
