Great photos, Dot! I especially love the pics of Blue Hippo and Sunday Sandals! That's the best photo of Blue Hippo I've ever seen. The garden photos I saw of it last year didn't impress me. But yours sure does.

Hi sandra christie, your last picture looks like a perfect mixture to me. The others looked a little too course and you wouldn't get good contact with the greens and browns if that's true. Keep the whole pile damp like a wrung out sponge and turn it every so often and that stuff will shrink, get loaded with worms and turn into the black gold we all crave here - that's after it heats up and breaks down some. Of course we've got winter to drag through and compost slows down considerably over the cold months. Hang in there, you're on the right track.

Your garden is very pretty and I love the pink daiseys. Not a color I am used to seeing daisey's in but it sure looks good. I especially like the garden view showing the Lupines and the Lupine Closeup. You know I just love Lupines. Do you let the Lupines self seed? Maybe you could get more plants that way.

Hey LagoMar and US Marine, the reason it can get so much colder here in South Texas than it does in South Florida even though we are on the same latitude as they are is because we have the continental plains states to the north of Texas with no mountain ranges or very large bodies of water to stop or significantly moderate Arctic cold fronts that have occasionally over the last 100+ years come straigt south from Canada. In South Florida, they are on the far southeast side of the North American continent, with the Ozark Mountains (small moutain range) to their northwest and the Appalachian Mountains to their north as well as the entire northern and central Gulf of Mexico to their west and northwest to buffer them. South Florida, also traditionally had the Everglades and Lake Okeechobee as well as the many lakes, rivers, and springs in Central Florida to buffer them to the north. This last effect has been severely diminished in the last 30+ years due to the extreme over-development of South and Central Florida that has virtually dried up what used to be a lush moist tropical/subtropical climate. They have had severe droughts for many of the last 20+ years, and this lowers the humidity and dewpoint, which means their temps can drop like a rock now too in the winter. South and Central Florida has had some very bad winters recently.

Great pictures! Your yellow iris look like some I have. Mine are heirloom iris. The came from my ancestors home in Flatonia, TX. They seem to have weak stems. Do yours? So far no one has found a name. I like the look of cilantro and also let it go to seed. The same with the feverfew. Kathy

Debra, I got one large fan from Luddy this spring. It split 3 ways and one stalk is done blooming. I have 2 more coming on so if it blooms nicer I will post it. I saw a gorgeous picture of it on the LA with a seed seller, Aladyreb. I thought it was gorgeous so I kept the picture.

Oh, Dot, your pictures are gorgeous. I wonder if they
would thrive in the zone 6 section of Michigan? I wonder where I would put them if they did.

I might look for several of those.

Kay, I grow mostly evergreens and am way south so I don't have any idea how they would do for you. Maybe someone in your zone could answer.

Dot - I always love seeing your daylilies since we're in the same area. Yellow has never been my favorite, but I love your Southwestern Memories and Speechless . I'm also loving Sunday Sandals and Zahadoom.

Dot - Aladyreb's photo of BH is very pretty too. The ones I saw last year were posted by people on two other daylily forums, and the petal color in both of those looked muddy -kind of an unattractive yellow beige. The eyes looked lavender blue, but not as pretty as in the photos you have posted here. I agonized over whether to get BLUE HIPPO or Asian Fairy Bluebird last year, and got AFB, which I really love. Now Blue Hippo is going back on the wish list.

Sunday Sandals is on my want list. I was going to try it here in zone 4, but a little chicken. Zahadoom is awesome. Very nice pics.

Oh I forgot Zahadoom is posted as Dormant. It didn't go dormant for me however but it must do so in the north.
About Blue Hippo, it is more yellowish in the morning but fades to the color here. Before I would invest in the cost of it I think I would ask around about how hardy it is. Maybe Luddy Ludlow would know or someone on here. I know it has powerful pollen and sets seeds easily. I will be selling seeds from it this summer, if I can bear to part with them LOL. Now as soon as the suns comes up a little more I have to take a picture of my new seedling. It is sooo exciting.
