Here's a couple of seedlings for you to compare.

Last years bloom on Starfish Moon x Mildred Mitchell #3

This years bloom on same seedling (SM x MM #3)

Another seedling, same cross, last years bloom

This years bloom (FFO)

Hi Jan, Interesting. Your seedlings have improved, but are still recognizable. Mine are doing the same. There's a little difference from last year...some scapes are 2-3 inches taller...some blooms have increased in size by an inch or so...but the minute one opens I remember it from last year...no huge surprises.

Gill, I worked in my gardens and greenhouse all day yesterday. It was so wonderful. While I was out there I took a few photos of various seedlings so that you could see the differences. I changed from my shutterfly account which I could not post several pictures in a row to another acct. NOW...lets see if I can post several photos in a row. Edna, how beautiful and what fun growing them from seed. I have Tiara crossed with several others and am awaiting blooms. Tiara X Rothkirch has just Y'd so hopefully soon. the plant is about 4 feet tall...started the seed in early June of 08.

Yours appears to be more blue in color than my plant although I will admit that the blooms on mine are variable at different times of the growing season--darker in the spring and lighter later in the summer. This may simply be that they get more bleached out in the summer and I tend not to notice them until after they have been in flower later in the season. Bloomwise, mine has a reasonably large flush early on and then smaller intermittent cycles throughout the growing season. It would probably bloom more if I weren't letting the seeds stay on there until they were ripe so that I could harvest them. Can't really give any any prognostication as to what yours will do this summer since it is a smaller plant, but you should be pleased in future years as it settles in and matures.

Oh, I didn't see the other topic started...lol. I just checked this one out because I was curious! When I saw the seedling I knew it had to be out of ROSE F KENNEDY...a true wonder if there ever was one. No, not looking for credit...you've done all the work in getting them to this point. Hope I can find where I stuck mine! I am hoping to see my first RFK kids this summer. I crossed it back to EMERALD STARBURST and also with "cabbage butterfly" back in 07, and with everything I got get my hands on in 08. Your seedling pictures have given me great hope! Thanks! Steve

Hi Jan,

Your first seedling is a real beauty - I think it improved, with that faint rose/peach eye. It's gorgeous! I'm not sure the second one changed much overall, but it's eye is definitely nicer this year. Nice seedlings!

Kathy...I still have two other seedling from this cross, we'll see if they change or look similar to last years blooms shortly. :)
Laurel...I agree...the first seedling has a much better form this year, and the color has improved also. The 2nd one's form is a bit better, wider petals, but I really do like it's color. I'm wondering if that edge might get better with sucessive bloom too.

Well, they did improve a lot,didn't they.They were very pretty last year,but I can see they much better this year.
Brighter? maybe. I love them.

Jan, I think they showed a definite improvement. The faint halo on the first bloom 2008' adds character to it and the second comparison seems to have smoothed out the petals! They are both lovely...Ellie

Lisa...I have 4 different seedlings of the same cross and they all look entirely different.
Thanks Jean...I think they've definitely improved this year too. I'm glad you enjoyed them.
Ellie....I like the 1st one a lot...the soft yellow is very pretty with that faint pencil marking around the eye. It's a very large bloom also. I haven't measured it, but it's at least 6 inches if not more.

Today's bloom of SM X MM1 is showing a marked improvement. I have to say I like the 2007 blooms better on 2 and 3.
