Conifer pics

I always see such interesting pics of your conifers on this web site. I thought I would post some pics of my guys. Unfortunately, I do not have any spectacular specimens but can see what I am growing in the midlands of South Carolina (aside from the Millions of Loblolly Pines!). Hope you enjoy and hopefully the link will work.

They all look spectacular to me.

Chamaecyparis Pisifera 'Sungold' -Supposedly....I have one of those. About a 1/3 bigger then yours. Same green color. Every time I walk by it I threaten to move it to an unassuming place because of not performing as expected color wise.

Lemon Cypress...wish I could grow that...love the color. My daughter in California has 3 in a grouping...spectacular.

nice. I think you've got a bit of zone denial. Has the wollemi been outside during the winter?

at ten feet.. my skyrockets were AT LEAST FOUR FEET WIDE ... and it should be.. IMHO.. at least 3 to 4 feet from those stairs .. take a minute to look at the pix at the link.. and understand 18 inches is not enough .... [and they are rather sharp needled .. and i would never want them too close to bare arms.. and i would never shear a conifer .. hence the distance] ... regardless.. live and learn .... and i dont think of them as long lived plants ... it took mine about 10 years.. to start declining ... and by that time.. i was glad to get rid of them ... and may we presume.. they will all be properly mulched.. to ease proper watering... i am happy to see all the new folks here at GW.. we work hard at enabling .... lol thx for the pix ken Here is a link that might be useful: link

"This conifer is oddly resistant to the mountain pine beetle ;)" That one is an invasive weed species, so not surprising it is resistant to MPB. Any info on viable biocontrol methods would be very welcome. Resin One of just a handful of species for which the recommended removal tool is a cutting torch! ;^) +oM

Hi re-juvenator.This is a good one isn't it?I like the debate:.dwarf versus 'real' conifers.Very funny.Someone must have planted those real ones when they were probably not unlike their dwarf cousins.Resin comes along 50 years later and at the click of a button he becomes a 'real' gardener? I said in an earlier thread that I think that creating a garden is a courageous act.In fact,I think all planting is.Planting for now and for posterity,for ourselves but also for those who come after us.I used to do garden construction work in the London suburbs.You wouldn't believe how many private garbage dumps I have seen.And amongst all that thrash someone decides to have a patio,or a lawn,or a pergola or a wooden fence with some nice trellis on top of it.We hire a skip (container) and wheel out rusty washing machines,car tyres,soggy matrasses and what have you.Occasionally we demolish a WWII bomb-shelter.When the work is done it stands out like a vase of roses on the moon.When you come along five years later,you notice the neighbours have also made an effort,and their neighbours too,and so on.Now,twenty-odd years later,some of those gardens have huge trees in them.Very pretty when young,but alas,wrong choice for the available space. So,the miniature,the dwarf or semi-dwarf -be it conifers or something else-are indispensable for Mr and Mrs Jones's garden.Much as I admire the wonders of nature,I also admire the creative spirit of man.That's what keeps him or her ticking. I had two wollemi... recieved them as gifts. 16 degree temps put the other in the compost bin ! If you look closely at the pic you can still see some burn on the longer Wollemi branches. As for the 'Sungold', during the winter it will have a little yellow on the tips. I like the plant reguardless but I wish it was a little more showy in the winter months. I am also aware that the Sequoia will not likely make it in the humid south but a buddy gave me some seeds so I decided to try.

Nice conifers. Those Dawn Redwood seem to grow everywhere.

Deodar Cedar

Hinoki 'Crippsii'

Also by convention, species names are lower case (Taxodium distichum, not Taxodium Distichum).
