WANTED: Newbi looking for various seeds

I'm relatively new to gardening and have decided to start the majority of my flowers from seed next year. I'm hoping to start many by the winter sowing method (my first try at this so cross your fingers and wish me luck). I was wondering if anyone has any suitable seeds that they may be willing to pass along to me for a SASE. Since I am new to gardening I don't really have anything to trade. I do have flowers in my garden which I am going to try to harvest some seeds from in the coming weeks but the problem is... I don't know the names of most plants so I can't really honestly trade with them. I do promise that anything I grow over the next year will be properly labelled and I will repay the favour next year by offering up seeds that I have been able to collect.

I'm looking for seeds that are relatively easy to grow - I don't want to be too discouraged by my first attempts!! In particular I would be interested in any of the following: Rudbeckia, Candytuft, Bleeding Heart, Columbine, Balloon flower, Phlox, Foxgloves, Petunia, Schizanthus (butterfly flower). However, I'm very appreciative of anything that you think I might be successful at growing. Thanks so much!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome Sharon, I sent you an e-mail. Yup, I can tell I'm gonna love it... starting to get kind of obsessive already. I'm already addicted to checking out the WS forum nearly everyday!! I hope I have luck at it this coming season.

I have a yarrow that is purple. I don't know the name of it, because it was a gift from a friend. I am interested in naturalizing a contained area with a variety of yarrow colors. We have white growing wild out here, so I might be able to harvest some seeds from those plants. I am interested in any color of Yarrow, and seeds of any other similar plant that would fit with it in a prairie garden setting & is easy to seed. I'm brand new to seeds, so I'm looking for something I can pretty much throw onto some good dirt, sprinkle some more dirt over it & water a couple of times a week to get it going. The area that I want to put these plants is a ditch on the side of my property. It is on a north side, and there are large oaks at the top of the ditch, but not in the ditch. it gets a good amount of sun, but not completely "full" sun. Very sandy soil. Any suggestions welcome. If you don't see anything on my "have" page that you'd like, I can do SASE.

hello GardenLu and welcome. it would be helpful to put your e-mail address on you page (not here in the thread), so that people can contact you. Also let us know what you are looking to grow...perennials, veggies, annuals...etc. a location would also be helpful.......you never know, you could be close enough to someone to be able to pick up seeds or plants (if you chose to arrange a meeting with a fellow gardener).

I have loads of poppies, many different varieties - these are best winter sown.

Hi Lisa! Waaaay out there in the East of Canada! lol

If you need anything else that these wonderful folks haven't fixed you up with yet, let me know. I am in the middle of harvesting a lot of new seeds as a result of Winter Sowing! lol So I can tell you that you WILL be successful at it. Once I get all this stuff harvested I'll divide all the seeds into packets and then I'll update my trade list. Feel free to click on my list anyway... I am pretty sure it is up to date as to what seeds I have left, but I will have LOTS more!
