wanted: date for gta east fall garden tailgater

If I remember correctly, last fall's East Tailgater was held at the end of September. Do we want to have it sooner or does the same time frame work well for everyone. How does September 24th sound? Do post your suggestions for a date over on the conversation section, under sydseeds GTA EAST FALL TAILGATER posting. Give me a few days and I'll post the location.

WooHoo! Nicole - so glad to have you getting the ball rolling for the fall swap. Ajax sounds great. Last year CherylnPickering got us swapping in the parking lot of St. Mary Catholic Secondary School in Pickering, and in the past years fall swaps we've been around the Oshawa area, but how about you connect with your easterly GTA newbies and maybe they can come up with a good location and then we can figure out a date. In 2005 we had it on October 1st; last year the date was September 24th - so our options are plenty with respect to an east GTA location and a good date for us all. Feel free to create a new thread on the Fall 2007 GTA East Tailgater where we can iron out the date and location - and I'll start ground layering plants that don't take to root division so I can brings some new things that are already rooted. I can't believe how well the rose of sharon twigs I got last year rooted and now are ready to come out of pots and into gardens - I'll leave them be until the fall in pots to bring them and a good supply of other rooted plants to bring for this fall swap. Hiya Bo, glad you can attend! I hope we get a good turnout next week. The Spring one is always more popular but still this is a great time of year to "thin out" even though plants may not look as appealing as they would in the Spring! LOL I will see what I can find in my garden...I know I have plenty of Fall Crocus (purple) and I'm sure I have some bulbs in there and other things I haven't had time to go through yet. There's three or four of us for sure coming plus Wildflower if she's still coming, and Nadia?...will have to see beyond that! ;~)

Julianna - Hi! Great topic~ I've been in email contact with a new GW'er who's game for a spring'tailgater plant swap'. We're at the starting stages of determining a good date and place with her and our friend muttsfan. GW has a new and unwritten rule apparently - that being to have all discussions about swaps/meet ups to take place on the conversation side of the exchange board (a couple of in person swap threads on the US boards were deleted/removed/pulled and when the attendees questioned this over in the suggestions and comments forum, this new unwritten rule was explained by the new garden web management team to have the conversations boards to be used as the place to discuss potential/upcoming plant meet up/tailgaters, etc. Can you start a new thread on the 'conversations' side of this board and I'll go get the two others and we can all meet there to discuss this, before this thread too 'goes poof'? Oh, it was +3 today.......spring is almost here!!!! Cheers, Syd

Looks like Spetember 24 is the day!

Location: St. Mary Catholic Secondary School, 1918 Whites Rd, Pickering Â located on the west side of Whites Road, one block south of Finch Avenue

From the 401: Exit Whites Rd. And go north on Whites. Continue past Kingston Road (Highway 2) and proceed through four traffic lights. After the fourth traffic light, you will see the school on your left. You can enter the school directly off of Whites Road

From Kingston Road: Turn north on Whites Road (if you are heading eastbound, turn left onto Whites Road; if you are heading westbound, turn right onto Whites Road). Proceed through four traffic lights. After the fourth traffic light, you will see the school on your left. You can enter the school directly off of Whites Road

From Finch Avenue: Turn south onto Whites Road (if you are heading eastbound, turn right onto Whites Road; if you are heading westbound, turn left onto Whites Road). Just before you approach the first traffic light, the school can be seen on the right side of the street. There is a driveway directly off of Whites Road.

From Taunton Rd: (from the west Steeles changes to Taunton) Turn south onto Whites Road (if your heading from the East, turn left If your heading from the West, turn right) Proceed past;3rd Concession Rd, over railway tracks and straight through Finch Ave. The school can be seen on the right side of the street. There is a driveway directly off of Whites Road.

The beauty of cut and paste from the Spring posting.....
Hoping for the same rules as usual;
1. Tailgater (meaning trading out of our vehicle trunks in a pre-determined empty parking lot)
2. No sales.
3. Pre-arranged trades ahead of time most welcome.
4. Any garden related living or inanimate object welcome at the trade (so not just seed packets and plants, but old tools, extra fertilizer, old garden books/magazines, compost, etc. - anything garden related actually is most welcome especially if you are new to these swaps and are just starting out but don't have alot of plants/perennials to divide up and swap/trade)
5. The ever popular 'swap circle' - which is the place we randomly place one (or 10) items in the circle which enables us to take one (or 10) items in exchange - this is the circle where you'll find things you never knew you wanted/needed).
