Jam Packed Weekend

I'm already dreading this weekend. Friday evening my youngest has her kindergaten graduation. Being it is her birthday the next day, I told her grandmas that I would have her family birthday supper that evening as well. As to save them a trip. Saturday morning we are having her birthday party with her friends. Then Saturday afternoon and evening I offered to host a barbeque for 12 South African immigrants that work at our shop. (They are missing their families so much.) Then my husbands aunt passed away and we just found out last night that her funeral is Friday afternoon. To top it all my aunt just phoned and invited us to her wedding on Sunday afternoon.

My house is a mess. ( I have snowmen sitting in my dining room yet.For crying out loud.)I still have plants to put out. And in my veggie garden the weeds are starting to get as big as the plants. (STUPID RAIN)

At work they are pushing for overtime and threatening mandatory overtime again.

I'm starting to get overwhelmed here.

I THINK IT"S TIME FOR A SICK DAY.

I have to bake for the graduation. Bake a cake for the Grandmas. Bake a cake for the kid party. Make all the salads for the barbeque.

I was going to say "It never rains but it pours", but in light of your "Stupid rain" comment, i'd better not! :> But it does seem to happen all at once, eh?

Take the sick day - you deserve it! Heck - you NEED it!

Yikes! I thought it was bad enough that my brother is coming to stay for 2 weeks right in the middle of gardening season... you have definitely got me beat!

Take the sick day! Take it! I said you could! LOL

(BTW I know you want to make it all special but if it was me I would be straight down to Safeway haggling for a deal on 3 cakes - LOL! Oh come to think of it they make salads too...)

We sure did not know triple_b ! You would be welcome Florence. You can just pick a little amount of rose petals during the summer (Zephy is a good choice!) and keep them in small bags in the freezer until you have enough to make the jam). Btw Here is another great link for all the rose products oneÂ´s heart can desire. (Including the Rose Petal Jam). Best Rose Oil, Water (Get the little atomizer!). I use the Rose Oil in aromatherapy lamps and it scents the house those winter days when I long for roses and summer and read rose books. You most likely just need to give it more time. Many jams can take several weeks to set and with Pomona I always get a softer set than normal anyway. I haven't used it nearly as often as others here have but assuming your recipe included the proper amount of lemon juice and you used the Pomona per instructions on the pack I wouldn't try to 'fix' it as it will only break any possible set. OBF Ladies, So I just FINALLY got done at school. Last day for students was yesterday. I spent all day today moving to my new room for next year. I came home with such a sense of relief and freedom. I always check the mail when I come home and couldn't figure out what Bluestone Perennials had sent me in a large envelope. I came into the a/c, poured a glass of iced tea and opened the envelope. It was a $50 gift certificate from Maryanne! First let me say how wonderful this is. I couldn't wait to be done with school to get back out to my gardens. Now I can get out to the gardens and spend my summer planning what to order for fall planting (which is preferred here over spring planting)!!!! I have never been so excited by a surprise since probably when Santa used to visit me! Now let me say to Maryanne, I am so very appreciative of this that I can't even say. I absolutely love it and am stunned by your generosity. BUT I feel very bad. I could have waited as long as you needed. We still want you to hang around and trade with us without feeling obligated to do this if you are behind on a trade. We've all been there and understand. That is why I feel so bad. You were so generous but I truly hope you did not feel obligated. In any case, I couldn't be more thrilled and am off to puruse the catalog now. And here I was worried that the box hadn't arrived and was sweltering in the heat somewhere :)You have made my summer dreams come true! Theresa

You know, it just dawned on me yesterday that Pat's popovers look far and away nicer than the ones pictured on the popover pan box. And I never thought to check Joy for a popover recipe...guess what I'll be making this weekend? I agree about the clean oven too, btw. If you've been bitten by the Fiesta bug (I feel like a drug pusher!) many stores like Macy's, Kohls, Boscovs & Dillards carry it so that you can see the colors in real life. I'm thinking that Peacock might be perfect with your dishes. Granjan- my husband did about three books and then the firm stopped calling him. I know that the freelance work was slowing down but it's been a few years. I know that he enjoyed it and would do it again in a heartbeat. Personally I thought that his indexes were great and I always half jokingly compliment him on Raising the Bar because I, too, would always complain about the indexes in cookbooks and how bad they were. The one in RtB is ideal! It's like he took all of my complaints to heart. So of course every time I have to look something up in the index I go "wow, this index is fantastic" but I really do mean it. Diana- the only thing that would make me happier than sending you the recipe would be sending you the popovers themselves but I'm afraid they'd be pretty stale by the time they got to you so the recipe it shall be. I'm so happy that my partner likes her stuff! And Pat kindly posted the recipe for the Maraschino cherries over in discussions. It's time for a new batch in our house as well. Nina

Just had my youngest son's nursery school graduation yesterday. They're WAY too cute! And 10 days ago had my oldest son's birthday party. Who plans these birthdays in the middle of gardening season?! Sheesh! What was I thinking?lol

Shelley take the sick day, and go to the bakery(and possibly the liquor store too!). I picked up an ice cream cake for DS and the kids loved it! Especially since it was 30 degrees out.
With that much on your plate, take the easy route ;^)

Heh heh. My kids' birthdays are November, February, and late August. Much better planning, eh?

I'd say take a bereavement leave day and a sick day!

Breath, breath, breath, when you're that busy, I sure wouldn't worry about baking a cake, I'm sure your guests will understand if its bakery bought, but get your DH to pick up the bakery and other stuff, if you're going to phone in sick someone from work might see you at Safeway!

First things first, make sure to move those snowmen downstairs ;)

I'm feeling better today. The snowmen are put away. A few more plants went into their new homes. The house is starting to get into shape. My closest bakery is a half an hour away, so it is less time consuming for me to bake. I'm planning lasagne, garlic toast and salad for supper on Friday night. Kenzie's favorite (the birthday girl) and an easy meal to make.
Still thinking about the sick day.

I hate weeks that look like that, let alone weekends! By Monday you may need a sick day. Enjoy the chaos - it's a better option than hating it.
