The catalogue from Bogner's, a local greenhouse, arrived today. And they have Alstromeria. They also had these nice tidbits on the bottom of each page.

You know you've been gardening too long when...

You plan your family vacations around planting time.

You hold to the dubious theory that anything that doesn't kill you will make you stronger.

You visit a friend's home and start pulling his weeds.

You find your rooting hormone alongside your vitamins.

Looking at your compost pile makes you feel all warm inside.

You think the bigger the garden...the less lawn there is to mow.

LOL, good one Connie, I believe I can relate to all of the above ;)

Another two I would like to add,

You've lost 10lbs because you don't have time to make supper.

You rather spend money on plants than buy groceries.

I think most of us can relate to this motto too.

The GardenersÂ Creed

I want it.
I want it all.
I want it now.
If it will not grow in my zone or is prohibitively expensive, I want it most of all.
I am perfectly willing to forego any necessaries of life such as food for my children in order to have it.
I recognize my horticulture dependency.
I recognize your horticulture dependency.
I am willing to aid and abet your dependency, as you will mine.
This makes us infinitely happy.
Any money saved by virtue of comparison shopping equals found money, and therefore not counted as spending.
If everyone has it I must have it too.
If I have planted everything I have already purchased, I must immediately buy more.

Jk, WOW, what a transformation!!! I love it all! I've been gardening on and off since I was about ten and planted my first carrots and radishes in mom's flower garden. (47 now). Its funny, this post had me thinking back over the years and how the gardener in me prevails through obstacles. my ex, hated anything growing, i'd plant a tree, he'd pull it out. gardening was the only thing my mom and I could discuss without a full blown fight brewing. when i remarried, we lived in a townhouse, got permission from the apt manager to rip out two horrendous hollys on either side of front door, and plant little beds there, which i loved. when we bought this house 8 1/2 years ago, I dug in like never before. had expanded the beds considerably in two years. in these past 8 years, my health has taken a hit a couple times, and the gardens always show that. this spring, after fighting some big health issues, i'm going back out to play in the dirt, and do whatever I can. I miss my flowers so much. It's a fresh start for me as there is nothing left in the gardens at all, save a lonely half dead azalea bush, a couple daffs that missed getting dug up last year, and a whole slew of weeds, though the beds did get completely cleared out last year for the makeover, so not as bad as they could be. I've got to do some major frugal gardening, so almost everything I'm doing is coming from seeds, which I pretty much always did anyway :D some of those seeds have been started in the last couple days, and I see this week it's supposed to warm up to upper 50's, so you can bet I'll be out there doing whatever I can do. Gardening is ever revolving, the history of your life shows in your gardens. The one thing I will always have growing is my forget-me-nots. My neighbors are all older, and the one across the street used to sit on her porch and just stare into the gardens out front, said she loved to see the forget me nots blooming. she's now in a nursing home, and i've planted some forget me nots in a pot for her, if they bloom this year, i'll take them to her. gardening is what I love to do and come what may, i'll do what I can. My dreams of the garden as I used to want it, will never come true now, but that doesn't stop me from having what I can have. I know without my flowers, my life is just too bleak. this place, GW, is a real picker upper for me, I'm glad I found my way back here after two years of being gone. sally

muktowngal... Thank you (and others) for your complements. I think I'm around 480 varieties... a few duplicates, but still, under 500 total. The large garden in the panorama has most of the varieties in it... around 400. The neighbor...they moved in a year before us and the previous owners left them a few hosta. That S&S in the pic was a puny 1-eye and was not doing well. It's grown so much in the 5 years since we've been here. Almost all of their others were added around 2008-09. I gave them the Royal Standards in that pic, and a few others that are not in the photo. I plan to thin out a few of my duplicates and will probably give them some more, since they're willing takers! Both my neighbors are good about keeping a nice landscape and I'm thankful for that. My rear neighbor... not so much.

I agree--I want him to be as effectively hooked as I am. :-) We stood together at about 4:30 today and watched the hail come crashing down on our gardens and all our hard work and our beloved plants, and prayed for it to stop, which it did immediately. Thank God! Houston was in a panic and was about to brave the hail, rain, wind and lightning to go save his plants!

I just noticed this posting, that is cute and some of it is very true. I actually do take a week off every year in late May to do planting. Everyone at work asks me if I'll be planting on my vacation.

I don't think I've pulled weeds at a friend's home, though I did tactfully tell my sister that her hanging basket needed watering, then I volunteered to do it for her (I can't stand to see a plant drooping and suffering, well unless it's a weed, lol)

I can relate to some of the comments above. Although all the plants do not have to be planted in my yard before I will buy more. If the price is right, it will come home with me. I have been known to be an enabler.

You have been gardening too long...or have the addiction real bad when...

You are sitting with friends for a barbeque and all you can think of is wanting to be home instead because of the work that needs to be done in your own yard whether it is the weeding of a certain flowerbed or planting of a perennial that you just bought.

Or, you go to visit someone and in your mind you are planning your friend's landscaping for her and thinking of how nice it would look for a certain perennial you have at home to be also planted in your friend's yard.

You go for a drive through town and you are looking at how others have taken care of their yards. You can't fully understand why some people just couldn't be bothered to even take care of the flowerbeds that are in the front of their house.

When your DH takes over on planting and taking care of the vegetable garden because he realizes that the perennial beds are where you want to spend your time and because they are so large you need to spend your time in them.

People come up to you or phone you and start asking your advice on perennials or plants that they are having a problem with.

You would rather spend your summer vacation in your yard with your blooming flowers than sitting at a lakeside somewhere.

You call up a friend and want to tell them all about the new perennial that is blooming for the first time.
