Hi Jean, Since asking about the size of the 2 plants that you would be sending in exchange for my 11 plants, I have only had 1 reply saying you would email the height the next day. I have several 'Snow Angel'. I also have hedychium 'Peach Delight', which overwinters here but I don't know about up there. LMK if you are interested, Les Reply; I am very interested in your heuchers and they are hardy for me.... I wish I coud use your peach delight but it is not hardy here. Tell me what else you have.......in your bog or in your shade garden that would be hardy up here. I am near Albany, NY and we are zone 5 I want to put 2 bananas in the box because they are heavy and I can ship in a flat rate box. I think the hedychium can be wintered over inside but I am not sure if your growing season will be long enough for them to bloom. I would pot them up in the early spring and set them in a sunny area to help them get started before you move them out. We could argue the point all day. For example, I could come back and make the argument that this company hardly specializes in true bog plants (I counted *maybe* two), and therefore isn't where I'd go to determine classication of wetland ecosystem. I'd call their entire section "Pond Marginals". After all, words are just symbols that we assign meaning to. In the end who defines words? The specialists who study ecosystems in the wild, or nurseries who grow plants? For that matter, I've heard people out in the country call Pitcher Plants "lilies". Does that make them lilies? I would honestly want to know though, how would you seperate the pond forum from this one? If the broader definition of "bog" is used, then how do we have any idea what anyone is referring to? If someone asked you what a bog was, how could you differentiate between a poorly drained yard, a pond on a golf course, or a waste treatment plant? Could you even define the word if it is used so broadly? In all seriousness, I heard Gale Norton claiming that wetlands had increased on her watch, when actually many of the kinds of sites I mentioned above, like golf course ponds, were used to calculate the number she published to the public. Politicians and developers count on the average person being ignorant of the difference. If we let the general definition rule, then there are real consequences. After all, if there is local hearing about a pitcherplant bog scheduled to be ditched for a subdivision, how will anyone know it isn't just a cattail marsh? This is why I feel the definition is important, and why I teach the more precise definition in the presentations on bog gardening I give to garden clubs. The average person needs to know that a detention basin isn't the same as a bog. If they don't learn the difference then we will lose the real thing. (If nothing else, they'll be confused and wonder why their pitcherplants keep dying.) No matter. I don't feel either of us will likely change their mind on the usage of this word. Andy, your beans are still NOT there? They should be. I put them in the PO mailbox last Saturday. Even if they did not pick it up until after the weekend and the holiday (Tuesday), I would think that you still should of had them by now. Although the mail has been messed up here on the East Coast because of all the snow storms. Maybe that is it. I had emailed Sandhill because I never got their catalog yet this year and usually I have an order in to them by now. I did finally get the magazine 2 days ago, but they wrote me back saying that they sent it out all the way on the 7th of January, and that they had other people from the East inquiring about where their magazine was too. So, I hope that is it. Donna, hers was sent out the same day as yours Andy, and she got her seeds, however she is right on the East Coast like me so that could be why. Angelady, did you get yours? yours should of been to you also since it was in a priority mailer box. Well Andy, I would not worry yet. Just please let me know asap when you get them so I do not start to worry! I would think Monday they would have to be there after all of this time? Shucks, I was hoping to see you post that you received them. Also Andy, incase I forgot to write it in your envie, I have some greasy beans coming to me at some point.
