Last call for Musa 'Dwarf Cavendish' Banana just in case anyone has any interest before I put them in the basement for our zone 4/5 winter. I love big trades and would gladly ship 2 or 3 in a box.

I have calamansi and papaya trees. The calamansi is 1 1/2 years old and about 8 inches tall. It can be grown as a container plant or grown outside. I also have a papaya from hawaii that can be grown as a large potted plant or grown outside. I think the calamansi would be a better choice. here is a link : Calamondin or Calamansi (scientific name: Citrus icrocarpa) is a fruit tree in the family Rutaceae that was developed in and is very popular throughout Southeast Asia, especially the Philippines, where it is most commonly used for cooking. In the west it is variously known as acid orange, calamondin orange, Chinese Orange or Panama orange. In the Philippines it is called calamansi/kalamansÃ® It is a shrub or small tree growing to 3Â6 m, and bears small citrus fruit used to flavor foods and drinks. Although sometimes described as a native of the Philippines or other areas of Southeast Asia, the tree is in fact the result of a hybrid between species in the genus Citrus and unknown in the wild. Hybrids between Citrus species have been cultivated for so long that the origins of most are obscure. It is generally held that most species in cultivation are ancient apomictic hybrids and selected cultivars of these hybrids, including crosses with segregate genera such as Fortunella and Poncirus. The calamondin is usually described as a cross between Citrus reticulata (Tangerine or Mandarin orange) and Citrus japonica Oval Kumquat group.[1] If the segregate genus Fortunella is recognised the calamondin is treated as an intergeneric hybrid in the nothogenus ÃCitrofortunella. The fruit of the calamondin resembles a small, round lime, usually 25-35mm in diameter, but sometimes up to 45mm. It has the color of a tangerine with a very thin green or orange colored peel. Despite its appearance and aroma, the taste of the fruit itself is quite sour, though the peel is sweet. Putting the whole fruit into the mouth often leads to surprise from first-time tasters at the combination of sweet and sour. The fruit can be frozen whole and used as ice cubes in beverages like tea or ginger ale. The juice extracted by crushing the whole fruit makes a flavorful drink similar to lemonade, and a liqueur can also be made from the whole fruits, in combination with vodka and sugar. In Asia the juice is used to season fish, fowl, and pork. KalamansÃ® is commonly used as a condiment for dishes such as pancit bihon. Calamondin marmalade can be made in the same way as orange marmalade. Like other citrus fruits, the calamondin is high in vitamin C.[2] In North America, the calamondin is grown mainly as an ornamental plant; it can be especially attractive when the fruit are present. It is frost sensitive and therefore limited to warm climates (e.g., Florida, California, south Texas, and Hawaii in the U.S.). If the plant is potted, it may be brought indoors during the winter in areas with cooler climates.[3] I agree with the above except for the fact that the calamansi is not sour - it tastes like a mix between a lemon and an orange - so sour&sweet at the same time.

Yes, and it may very well send up pups, even if it doesn't send up new leaves. I had one that was a donot - the center hole went clean through the corm, but it sent up half a dozen pups before giving up.

Vickie.....your bananas sound wonderful but I really want bananas that are hardy in zone 5. I also am not good with seeds. Do you happen to have any other plants that would be hardy in my zone? Another possibility is succulent cuttings.

Since asking about the size of the 2 plants that you would be sending in exchange for my 11 plants, I have only had 1 reply saying you would email the height the next day. I have not heard about the size yet, perhaps one of our emails is messed up. Post here and I will get back to you here as well.

I am very interested in your heuchers and they are hardy for me.... I wish I coud use your peach delight but it is not hardy here.
Tell me what else you have.......in your bog or in your shade garden that would be hardy up here. I am near Albany, NY and we are zone 5
I want to put 2 bananas in the box because they are heavy and I can ship in a flat rate box.

I have ajugas, 'Caitlin's Giant' and 'Burgundy Glow'. All of these are pot grown and so can be planted out immediately.
I can't think of anything else that I have that might work where you live. I sort of try pushing the envelope so do a lot of zone 8 plants. We are right on the border between 7 and 8.

Let me ask you this ...Is the hedychium 'Peach Delight', a bulb that I could overwinter in the basement?
If so you could send me all the heucheras and a few peach delight in exchange for 2 banana.

Just a guess as to the height would be fine but either way DH wants them so send me your address. I think the hedychium can be wintered over inside but I am not sure if your growing season will be long enough for them to bloom. I would pot them up in the early spring and set them in a sunny area to help them get started before you move them out. I will send out tomorrow or Friday at the latest, Thanks

I am so sorry for the mis communication....I thought that when you said DH wanted them anyway ....that the height was no longer a concern.
I did mail out both bananas today and realistically all I am trading with you are 2 bananas that are about a foot high...I also did include a few extra plants for you since I assumed that you had shade gardens and I also sent a start of black /green ajuga which is a little unusual.
When you talked about your heucheras I assumed they were small starts and I would gladly take starts of any that you could spare but I also felt the choice of what you sent would be yours and what you could spare.
If you are uncomfortable at all please just accept the box I sent as a gift and do not feel pressured to send anything in return.
Again, in my haste to get things sent out today I now realize that I probably did not spend enough time making things clear enough in the trade and I do realize that I am at fault.
I did not intend to make you uncomfortable and please accept my apology.
