Thanks for the reply, I guess my post did sound pretty vague. No latin name, unfortunately. The tag just says Weeping Larch #15. Unless the 15 means something, that's all the info I have. By outgrowing the space, I was referring to the location being up close to the house, where it wouldn't be able to spread out too much on that one side. The rest of that location is wide open, and it can do what it wants. My other concern was if it would get so tall that it would look awkward up that close to the house, but from looking at pics online, I think it is a true weeper, so thanks for putting my 100' tall worries to rest. I guess now, I just need to read up on training it. Right now the tip is growing straight out to the side, so I'm guessing it's about to head for the ground if we don't do anything soon. I appreciate the help. Sorry for sounding so clueless. The tree was a spontaneous gift from my mom. She just can't help herself, so occasionally a mystery plant will show up on our porch. dig a small hole.. with a hand trowel ... 3 to 6 inches deep ... AND FIND OUT WHETHER THE SOIL IS WET OR DRY ... ball and burlap ... potted... how did you plant.. amend the soil??? how about a pic it would also be nice to know where you are ... ken

Hi! I gave the larch the season and after a crappy Calgary winter she was not a happy gal. She was removed and a new very healthy one was put in another spot in my yard. She is thriving!!! I find these like quite a bit of water. In fact the root system acts like a sponge. I have actually come to the conclusion that it was starting to die prior to planting, after being able to find a better specimen. The plant as Ken mentioned was buried too deeply in the pot and spent quite some time that way, I believe. I think it had no chance. I made a newbie mistake and after all these messages I dug quite aways down to find the correct crown, and as you can tell from one of my pics I had already exposed a few inches of trunk when I initially planted but not enough at all. The root system needs to be very close to the surface, in fact the new one has roots that grow a bit above ground almost or right at the surface. It was not a healthy purchase and should have been left to die at the nursery. On another note, I had a small weeping birch that died near that spot. I have also had reed grass die there. It is cursed lol! Now it houses a Christmas Flamingo in the winter and that's it. One day I will try to figure out why it is a death zone. This all was 5 years ago that's hard to believe that much time has passed! We have since moved on to our back yard and I havent lost a plant yet from the excellent advice you all have shared! And for any newbies out there reading this, from perennials to trees if you pick a properly planted and cared for plant to start, you will have a lot more success!

This photo was taken 6/21 does that make a difference with the flush? Back when I bought the spiral weeping cherry. I have been trying to just research it...curious if the top gets the width size or if it's the length that pools at the base they are measuring. If I chose to find one say spring of next year...it won't be until mid June. With our plans to be out of the country for two weeks around the beginning of June. Is this bad planning...should fall be a better course of action to take? Contemplating replacing the forsythia with something like this...your saying 3'...the reason that the root ball would be more appropriate for the canopy? I had thought on having some goofy spectacles/glasses on a stake made for it. For quirkiness...I could maybe secure the tree if need be to said scrap art piece? (If I do decide to do such a thing) I had thought to plant one back by our waterfall...but...I am not seeing where this is juglone tolerant. So that can't be done. The only other place would be where the forsythia is located. Ken...the one you are telling me to do get is the one I posted about and is in the link you attached...not the one that bboy mentioned...correct?
