We do have an early season, but when many of you are enjoying daylilies, mine will be long done. I have been looking for late ones, but have been told they are not really late here. I bought one yesterday that Dan Hansen has listed as very late, but Gene showed me that some of that variety already have scapes beginning. I would love to find some extra late ones for Florida. Wish me luck! I am not very confident in what I am doing yet.

His email is wgwynn99@aol.com. He has a catalog that he mails, but no website. This year I was on his mailing list and did not have to request a catalot. last year I asked for it. I don't know if other daylily people have pictures in their catalog. His is only a list of the flowers in alphabetical order with they breeder, oops I mean hybridizer, and year and a short description. His plants are gorgeous. that's why he suggested I come there, rather than buy bare root. but I can tell you they are all very healthy and large. Tell him I sent you, okay. My real name is Lin Herz. His prices are terrific, and he is so honest. He sells some for a fifth or less of what I've seen elsewhere. I heard about him from someone on this list who said he is a Munson guru. He has some Munson's that no one else has.

Hi Lin, yes Gene IS the Munson guru! And you came back with not the first Munson :( I didn't see the thread you started about Ruffled Lemon Piping til today and you had already been to Gene's. He did have it on his pricelist for $10 I think.
Aren't his plants magnifico? I've put more money in Gene's pockets than I have my own over the last 5 yrs. I too paid him a visit in let's see it was 2006 to see his gardens and plants. He's shipping me out an order tomorrow.
Good luck with your new babies and at least you already have Betty Warren Woods to tuck them next to!

You know, Kabby, I just realized I forgot to get the ruffled Lemon piping and a greenish yellow one, once I got home. His plants are wonderful, and he could not be nicer. You may have been the one who turned me on to him last year. He was so helpful. We did talk about how he got into daylilies and the Munson's. There were one or two I wanted that he said he didn'g grow any more. After I get these in the ground, I may have him ship me more. but with the way they are supposed to grow, I have limited space due to tree roots. He showed me a way I could do a raised bed, but I don't think I have the money for that now, and I know I don't have the strength or ability to do it myself. I only got one variety that was ten dollars, the Blue eyed butterfly. The rest were five to eight. I got that whole list above (this years part of the list) for $99!! Now I just have to figure out where to put them, and the soil. I wish one of you experts lived nearby.

Thanks for the link to your adventure, Fairysoapgirl. Wow! Your web site is impressive, as is Jack's place. Jack's place is much larger than Gene's. Gene does daylilies after he comes home from work. Although he comes home pretty early, I don't think he would have time to have a place like Jack's. It's only he, his wife, and daughter. And his wife and daughter work in other jobs also. Jack's place is huge. I would have been totally lost. You must have so much energy to have planted your daylilies right away. And so many. Mine are in pots, so I have some time. I do want to get them planted asap, but since they're in pots, they have a little time. I watered them all today. Gene put each pot in a little plastic bag, to protect my car. I thought that was so nice. And I brought my "plant cover" sheets (what I cover my plants with when it's supposed to freeze) to put under the plants. My camera is not working, so unfortuantely I was unable to take pictures. But I will go back at some point. I borrowed my Mom's camera today to take pics as I progress, until my camera comes back.

I have BLUE EYED BUTTERFLY and ARABIAN MAGIC. Both do well even this far north (Zion, IL), but are southern bred plants and should do very well for you. BEB is one of my favorites, and I use it for breeding every summer. You'll love it. AM is a gorgeous purple/red that I think you will be very happy with also. Neither one has multiplied as fast as I would like (I think due to the cold up here), but oh the blooms are wonderful.

What is Gene Wynn's price for Song in My Heart? I have a catalog from him, but I can't seem to find it right now.

Sharon, He charges seven for Song in My Heart. I'm guessing that is a good price. I got two of them. I would have gotten more, but it is so hard to find places that can be dug with all the roots big and small in my yard. I am small and not very strong. It took me a long time to dig one lily out that I thought might not be getting enough sun. It was only in for a year, but was hard to dig out. Then I had to dig a new hole for it, and plant it. Then I dug a hole for one of my new plants and planted it. My soil is so hard even where I ammended it that I'm glad I did not get more plants.

I live in north fl ( Tallahassee ) and would love to find a local grower, where is Gene Wynn's located?

You are so lucky to live not that far from him. He is in Jasper, which is about an hour from Gainesville, just in the crook of the panhandle. He's just off I 75. By the way, I have found beautiful daylilies in your two really nice Tallahassee nurseries. One is a rust problem so they don't grow it anymore, but it was my first daylily- Colonel Scarborough. I used to love the Colonel.
