WANTED: help /ideas/exchange 'Bloomin' for Books'

Hi!

I'm wondering if any one has any ideas for resources for CHEAP pots in which to force bulbs?

My children's school's fundraiser fell short by $8000. I'm helping to raise $2500 for our school library to make up for the library's budget cut.

I'm forcing hundreds of bulbs to be sold in late winter/early spring as "Bloomin' for Bulbs". My four kids are helping plant and keep watch. (What you help build, you help support!)

Any ideas where I can find INEXPENSIVE baskets/pots? Please let me know of any resources. Of course, if YOU want to donate any planting baskets, I won't stop you. Now, I don't know if Garden Web will let me post this one with that last comment.

Seriously, though, I'm an avid gardner. I've limited resources, but with what I have I can make it double. I want to show my kids and their classmates to take what they have (their gifts, you could say) and how to multiply it for the school.

Why, even the principal is getting excited about all the gardening! He spoke of putting in an organic garden. AND we already have volunteers-us for the tilling, etc.

I am a big advocate of reuse and recycle. I often use yogurt containors of all sizes as flower plots after using a tool to make drainage holes in the bottom.

Did you try asking for pots at any of the local garden centers? I've noticed that when they throw away their unwanted plants, the pot in which it is growing is included. It may require a bit of effort, (picking through their plants, sterilizing the pots, etc.) but it might be a good source -- especially after the poisetta madness of the holidays! I would certainly ask for donations from them, too...after all, how much of your money have they gotten? ( In my case, a small fortune...before I found out about exchanges! :)Good Luck!

Due to confursion with the two new members I am sending out six to emily... Time and the gardener (too many words not enough photos lol) Great Garden Decor - please return did not have labels so I wrote name and address on front page. Book has some neat ideas... I want to try one on page 74 with circle and stones on circle as well as brick patterns on page 73 Lawn & garden book. All about azaleas, camellias and rhododendrons The treehouse book, alhtough this book is not really garden. it is inspiring to look at photos and made me feel like a kid again for 10 minutes which made the book worthwhile just because of that! The little guide of herbs. Sorry for the delay emily! I just got 4 trees cut down in my yard what a mess.... Still have carcuses of 2 left in my yard we are trying to cut up.

Mellon--Lovely, lovely package. So generous and thoughtful!! She sent me a ton of stuff. My friend Mare is visiting and she remarked "It's just like Christmas!!". Oh, yah. She's been helping me get my dahlias in the ground because I have an injured left wing. Mellon gifted me with TWO hostas 'Chinese Sunrise' & 'Plantangea'. Heucherra 'Can Can'; Daylily 'Erin Leah'; Wigalea 'Ruby Glow'; and a big fat bulb of lilia 'Black Beauty'. Love, love, love it all. Everything was well wrapped and packaged. Thank you very much, it was a wonderful package. Oh wait, and a hilarious (and oh-so- true) card with a nice note inside.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner. Thanks for all the suggestions. I was telling my husband that I had no ideas, and he said why don't you cook some of the halibut and salmon I just brought home? (he was on a fishing trip in Alaska last week) So I think that I'll cook in on the grill wrapped in foil with some olive oil and seasoning, then make a sauce with fresh tomatoes, marinated mushrooms and artichoke hearts, capers and lemon juice with angel hair pasta - this is something that I've been making for my husband and myself the past few months with salmon. I'm not sure how long I'll need to cook the fish though. I really hate overcooked fish!

another source of pots: cemetaries. They toss them all in a pile in the back, and also every area has garbage containers with empty pots and plant stuff in them. My hubby does not like me to go grave digging, but the owners of the cemetary said go for it, they are tossed in the garbage anyway.
