Please identify this cactus and I promise to be good all next year. It's about 5 cm across and maybe 1 cm tall.

/PPG. I guess we need to get you prepped for your first Aleya purchase then! ^_~ My answers are: 1. The BIG bag of 500 dragonfly clips. Somehow I can never quite justify spending $50 on dragonfly clips, but seriously, dragonfly clips are like gold to me. Ruby and diamond encrusted gold. 2. A top of the line lighting setup! Interesting. The only time in my life where that might have been viable would have been when I was working too hard to have a life anyway, but even then, I'd have wanted an oven. I could live in a much smaller house, but not that much smaller.

There is no Gymnocalycium species called asturium. There is a G. asterium (typo?), but that is just a (deprecated) synonym for G. stellatum. Many authors now regard the latter as a form of G. quehlianum. The stellatum type have fewer, thicker spines and a more grayish-brown skin than quehlianum.

Well, I would go along with stellatum, and possibly the form or variety described as 'paucispinum'.
Ps. There are quite a few of these flat 'pancake' Gymnocalyciums. My faves .... and they are not in any hurry to get very big!! Merry X-mas to all ! T.

I wondered if they were one and the same plant, thanks for clarifying that. I have seen this sold both ways.
