Aloe id please

Hi all,

Hope everybody's doing well.

Can somebody help with the names of the following aloes?

It's a suckering aloe.

I got this as an Aloe striata; but it does look like a reynoldsii. Am I correct?

It hasn't flowered for me yet (don't know whether it'll be yellow or orange).

The first one looks like a form of Aloe deltoideodonta, IIRC.

Can't help you with the second. I grew only one A. reynoldsii and not very well. The other two of the group (A. karasbergensis and A. striata) flourished.

Thanks for the id. Mine does look a lot like an Aloe deltoideondonta var candicans. I believe mine has stiffer leaves though.
What problems did you have with your A. reynoldsii?

It has a very interesting growth pattern right now - the lower leaves are lined up so that it is essentially a 'flat' plant lower down on the base. The upper leaves seem to be taking on the more typical alternating leaf pattern I would expect from aloe...almost as if the plant is turning itself as it grows up. Is this typical of marlothii, or is it just my imagination? Tom

No, I don't think it's A. erinacea, Harry. Geoff's suggestion of A. humilis hybrid sounds right to me...Aloe 'Jaws'...which he (Palmbob) has pix of at Dave's Garden.

Thanks all, Rini, this is a bit of coincident that the roots are 'upstairs'. I cannot tell if all tree-Aloes can be grown like this. I suppose it happens sometimes in their home-country when the sand etc. is blown away. I sometimes see trees here like this and they don't die that soon. greets Harry

I've looked up both Jeff and Hoovb's suggestions with a quick little google image search. I really think it could be either so I am excited to see how it develops as it matures. I have it in quarantine right now and am going to pot up to a 4 in. pot when it can go with the others. -Erica

Mine also has prominent teeth unlike the photos I've seen of Aloe deltoideondata var candicas. Maybe mine is a hybrid.

Hi pirate girl.

I was referring to those little babies coming out the side of the aloes - you can actually see them in the first photo.
I will try to post this on the other forum to see if anybody can determine whether it's an Aloe deltoideondonta var candicans or not. -j
