I do mine much different than others, I have been trained by the Huntington Gardens a professional nursery. The only thing that I'm starting this time of the year are Aeonium, and by leaf. This is the time for them. Ask Karen she is from New York and will explain how to do this for you. I don't want to explain it because I don't care to be shot down again. You know, I have been "lurking" this site for awhile, and learning quite a bit from all the postings. I was very hesitant to join, however, because I feel that certain people are very arrogant and rude. But I signed up today just so I could post this message.

People post questions here to get help from people. If you are not willing to help, and you just post to put a snide remark, why post at all?

Obviously I am mostly talking about you Norma. You seem to go by 2 member names, because there is a Norma2003 or something like that - and both of you comment very similiarly.

You make people feel like they are wasting your time by asking questions. Then don't respond. Why are you even a member of this forum? You work at the Huntington and should know everything, no? Are you on here just to make yourself feel superior to people who aren't as plant savvy as yourself?

I saw a comment you posted a while back when someone was asking about whether their plant was a "silver dollar jade" - I think that was the title of the post. I don't know which "member name" you used -dufflebag or Norma2003, but you said something extremely rude about plant names - trying to attack the person when they were just asking for help. I couldn't believe it. And since then I've seen many more snide comments like that.

I don't know if others notice this, but it gives this forum a bad vibe. Why be so negative? It's plants for God's sake. Lighten up and be more friendly. And if you choose to leave a negative comment instead of a helpful one, maybe you shouldn't be leaving one at all.

Lay them on the soil surface and wait for the roots to start poking their way out and then I just sit them up and cover the little roots with soil.

Make sure to keep out of harsh direct sunlight while they're going to send up roots.

Splanta, if you're joining just to disparage people, pls. spare us all. Personal attacks are neither welcome or even allowed here. If you're intent on attacking someone do it privately. I was going to ignore this post altgother (exactly as you suggest) as the question had been answered just fine (thx MBT), but then I saw specific mention of me by name.

Norma happens to be a very experienced grower & a gentle & kind person from whose knowledge many of us have benefitted. As we are personally acquainted & actual friends in real life, I can say w/ certainty that if she offended is was not deliberate or out of meanness.

Perhaps Splanta, you should take your own advice.

I am growing many succulents from leaves and all I do is lay them on their sides and mist them every once in a while. I use empty egg cartons: I drill a hole in every egg-space, and fill it with soil. So far they are all sprouting nicely.

A long time ago I thought maybe something along the lines of what you're thinking but then I came to realize it was all in how I interpreted the posts. I don't think Norma is being rude I think she's just very succinct in the way she posts and tries to put as much info in few words.

I know that when I type I ramble and use more words than are necessary most of the time and I also type how I think. So you may see "ummmm" or "hmmmm" in my posts when I'm confused or unsure and sometimes I catch myself doing it and will edit it out. I remember the fuss created once because I used "hmmmm" in a post and someone interpreted as me accusing someone of trolling.

(ok look I'm rambling)

I guess what I'm saying it that you shouldn't be so harsh on Norma because we all have different styles of writing and I think what you read as "rude" may just be someone trying to post when they have little free time. I hope you get yourself a new screen name, start fresh and decide to come back and participate in the forums here because there are a lot of cool people with good information to share and I'm sure you're one of those people too.

BTW to anyone reading this: how about we take advantage of the cacti gallery more often and post pics or respond to those who decide to share their succulent beauties with us. Come you know you want to.
