I had a lot of wild rabbits. At any given time, I could see 20 or so in the back yard. I tried "Shake Away," the powder made of bobcat urine (or maybe it's coyote...it's somebody's urine dried up). WORKS GREAT! In fact it worked so well I pretty much ran off the rabbits completely. That saddened me, because I did enjoy watching them frolic in the yard. Even though my local nurseries are anti organic it seems, they do all have Shake Away. (There are similar products) It's under ten dollars, you just sprinkle around the perimeter. It doesn't smell unless you stick your face in it. I really believe in this stuff. BTW, I had a neighbor (they've moved now) with some dogs behind a fence. One baby wild bunny got in the yard and was killed. My neighbor buried the poor thing in MY GARDEN. His wife found out and made him confess. His reason? He figured my soil was softer. Um yeah, because IT'S A GARDEN. I've never really recovered from the bizarro factor of a neighbor burying a dead animal IN MY GARDEN. But get some Shake Away and try it...it works too well, at least on my many cute bunnies.

Our local rabbits eat our butterfly bushes, lavender and rosemary (occasionally), honeysuckle, some sage species, wormwood (yes, it's supposed to be poisonous, but our rabbits eat through entire bushes), and more. I don't 100% trust any article that tells you what they "tend" not to eat... I've been burned over a dozen times. You have to test it in your own garden... my local rabbits have damaged or completely eaten every plant that they "tend" not to eat. We have acres of vegetation that rabbits eat so it's not like our rabbits are starving... maddening. As the above poster wrote, although unsightly, fencing is the only method that has worked for me (liquid fence, "scarecrow", blinking lights, ultrasonic stakes, etc have all failed for me).

Connie, my parents live on Granny White near Tyne and the deer eat their stuff all the time. Last year we got some blackberry bushes at the swap and my mom planted them inside wire cages and the deer still got in. They have fences around their vegetables and fruits and the deer still get in. They live close enough to Radnor to get deer in the backyard fairly often. They don't usually come down close to the house so my mom is hoping to get some more blackberris and try them near the house. I live in Crieve Hall and have not had really a problem with rabbits eating things. I planted some lettuce a couple weeks ago and was worries about the rabbits but so far it is fine. I do have a lot of rabbits and have had some flowers eaten but am not sure the rabbits were the culprits. I had some moss roses all eaten to the ground a couple summers but last summer they were fine. Some hostas were eaten last year but not until later in the summer. Again, not sure what ate them. I have a similar problem... I've tried cayenne pepper, which works but washes off and washes into the ground and has to be re-applied. Same with the spray-on product Liquid Fence. So now I'm using Bobbex rabbit repellent. Get it from the nursery, spray on a not-so-windy day. It smells terrible...worse than terrible... but when it dries it's only detectible to the critters. And it doesn't wash off from the rain or sprinklers. You do re-apply periodically, but not so often. This is the best thing I've found so far. I agree with gracie above, who said that they tend to leave the larger hosta alone.... HOWEVER, they will love to gnaw on the emerging pips in the spring (which makes the hosta look a little mutilated when the leaves unfurl), so next spring I'm going to be out there with my Bobbex right from the get-go!
