Who Else is Getting Very Tired Still?

Every year I am surprised at how tired I get from a couple of hours of work in the yard! I only spent 2 1/2 hours out, and I am really tired. DH reminds me it is always this way, but I could work 8 hours at a time when winter came, so it doesn't seem right to get so tired.

I used the leaf blower to remove leaves from the two big iris beds, and fertilized an watered the oldest bed, then I finished pulling dead leaves from the side daylily bed and weeded then newest iris bed, then preened a couple of beds and the back path. And I am tired!!! I had to quit since I am working an extra shift tonight, but I can't get over how tired I am.

Are any of you feeling more tired than you expected?

I just wish that I could go out and work in my garden and then being tired would be welcomed! Instead I'm siting around staring at the lily auction and losing my mind indoors! This has been the longest winter ever. Enjoy being out there for all of us. Zone 5 has a ways to go before spring visits us!

Haven't yet even seen a flake of snow here this autumn and Edmonton will break the record (I believe it is Nov. 6th) for the latest first snowfall of the season ... honestly, for myself the longer it stays away the better! ... Sailorman - I'll try to address some of the issues you brought up. Yes, we've definitely considered practically every scenario (as well as asked our contractor) as far as why the project started going downhill. That's not to say that it was perfect at first, just that we at least made significant progress over the first 3 months, compared to very little the past 3 1/2. As far as we can tell (we can only go with what info we are given), there is nothing going on with him personally that would affect the job this much. Other than the financial mess of course. As for that, we've offered to work with him in any way possible, short of simply coughing up more money than was even in the bid when he has no idea (or isn't saying) where it has gone. We've gone way over budget in many areas, but that's accounted for - we knew that would be the case when we started. As for the not showing up for the job, well, in my opinion, that's not acceptable for any reason. I sometimes have to work with people that I'd rather not and I can't just decide not to show up for my job several days a week and NOT EVEN CALL! And if I specifically say that I will be there the next day (such as on the weekend), I will either be there on time or at least call with a GOOD (meaning something more than I just didn't feel like it) excuse. I don't consider us to be difficult to work with as homeowners and if anything, we're probably more guilty of being too friendly and accommodating, so he's become accustomed to that. Lastly, as for project delays, we'll take blame for anything we cause such as deciding to make major changes or not being able to decide on something quickly enough, however so far that has not been the case. During the project, we've taken care of ordering every single thing in a timely manner including sinks, faucets, lighting, tile, appliances, etc and all have been sitting in our house for months. The cabinets are waiting to be intalled and granite has also been sitting at the fabricator's warehouse for months. So...not sure what else we could do to move this along. Sorry - I don't mean to sound defensive. It's just very frustrating to realize at this point that we might as well have served as our own GC and avoided any additional fees! I do appreciate the input and suggestions!

"Ramp up"? At the back of a flat-bed trailer, often called a "float", there are a couple of tubes at each side of the back, and two ramps, 6 - 8' long, with a tube at each side of one end of each, and two long bolts going through each set of those four tubes to attach the two ramps to each side of the back of the trailer. Swing the ramps up from the trailer and over, letting them drop to the ground. Then drive your tractor with the front end loader and a bucket on the back up the ramps on to the trailer. Then swing the ramps back up and over, to lie on the trailer just behind the tractor. My landlord the sod farmer does that every few days, to help lay the sod beside the houses that the builders are putting up. They have things like that at the back of the big transport aircraft, to drive heavy equipment up into them. It's usually used with regard to a project that's been operating on a small scale and is being increased. Disturbing word? Incredible!! Along with some that you've mentioned: "myself" one of the main ones. "A million and a half people evacuated ...". How do you evacuate half a person? Too funny Kswl! All solids? I've never really thought about that but I wear a ton of prints, florals, stripes, etc. I do love my solids to wear my scarves with. I love scarves and wear them often in cooler weather. I have a couple of gauzy ones I will wear in spring/summer. If I don't have a scarf on I will more than likely have on a funky necklace. One thing I will note, I do not wear black up against my face. Too stark and washes me out. I do not wear yellows, oranges (I HATE orange but love a pinky coral), browns, mossy greens, etc. (earth tones) other than some shades of brown pants. Thankfully those colors do not look good on me. I don't use them in our home either! Lynn, I had my colors done years ago and I am a winter. I don't think black is drab at all. It's fashionable! But of course, it makes a difference what you wear with your black.

Kay,I think its called getting older :-)I been in the yard a lot in the past week, too.Its been so nice and warm out.How I done it,I dont know,with the problems with my body, since the statin drugs, but,I raked the leaves out of 4 of my flower beds,put Preen in 3 of them, and sacked up the leaves.I am quite proud of myself.I got one more flower bed to rake out and clean up..I also have a Iris bed I have never cleaned up, b ut,since I have found out the deer dont bother the iris,I might try to de weed it, too.Its over crowded, too.

daylily beds.I have a question for you .Will the preen hurt the plants if it get on them?

Kay, I'm so glad to here you say that! I know it happens every yr but seems to get harder. I don't know how long I was out there because I would come in and go back out! My upper legs talked to me yesterday! I'm a little afraid to clean up to early for the weather could turn ugly. I always think the leaves give the plants that winter protection. Just need SPRING!

Pat,I dont think the Preen will hurt none of the plants.I have it all over the leaves of my daylilies and roses,and its never hurt them yet.Last year was my first time to use Preen, and it was all over my daylilies,and didnt h urt them at all.I didn't know about Preen,until I read every one else's posts about them Preening every thing,so I thought I would just give it a try, too.It works pretty good.
We have had 70 -75 degrees all last week,and today I got up to low 50's and the little bit of wind makes it feel much colder, so I have stayed in today.

Ellen, I have been doing like you. I go out, work a little while, come back in, drink, lay around till I can get enough energy up to go back. I worked outside on and off all day Saturday, and then was so sore and tired could not get to sleep. I went to Dr. appointment yesterday. I had gained several lbs this winter being a snacking, couch potato. I hope some of this work will get a few lbs off me this spring. Sarah

I haven't done a thing in the beds yet Kay. Look at all you have accomplished, you should be tired. I got tired just reading your thread! I can't wait to get started! LOL!!...Ellie

I am down to one fairly large daylily bed and (a couple of rows along a fairly short sidewalk)and I will have the daylily beds ready. I put Preen on the big front dayily beds and the back bed, and I got most of the leaves (and about 2/3 of the weeds) out of the butterfly garden.

I will have to blow the leaves (again!) out of the iris beds tomorrow since we are supposed to have rain this weekend.

The tulips and daffodils are beginning to open, and the roses are leafing out like mad. The forecast is for no freezing weather for a couple more weeks...what a freaky weather year it has been!

Jean, I can;t slow down, something may be overtaking me...I'm not old, I've decided to call it aged, you know, like a fine wine.

Ellie, it shouldn't be long before you can get outside.

sann777, I found a few of those pounds too.

gmatx, I would never have thought I'd be thinking "hmmm, I'd like to be 60 again! (30 maybe, but 60? but here I am)

I worked outside for several hours again today, and I am tired again too.

Well, I tackled my last flower bed this afternoon and got all the weeds out of it,and put the Preen out in it, and I repotted several daylilies that I am keeping ina pot.I gave them a much bigger pot..Talking about getting older,I had a Birthday Feb. 28th. Suppose to be the 29th, but, dont have that 29th day this year, so I still make it the last day of Febuary,,so now,I am another year older,and maybe the oldest one on this forum.Anyway,I am still going, just going alot slower these days.

Jean, Aren't you something? I still have one more daylily bed to clear. Maybe I'll get it today. I'll be 67 this year Jean, so you aren't the only one to be adding up the year.

There seem to be quite of few of us "mature and wise" vintage people on this forum. You certainly have a right to be tired Kay with all you're getting done. I can't wait to be tired from working in my garden, but right now I'm tired of shoveling snow.

Val, the only good thing about all the snow I've shoveled this winter is that hopefully it will have helped me stay in gardening shape. If the storm predicted next week comes as snow I'll have more gettin in shape shoveling to do.

Kay,I just made 79 yrs old that last day of Febuary.Too bad we can't go the other direction after reaching a certain age, aint it, but, not too far backwards..I am out every day that its not storming, checking the daylilies.They are growing now and green as can be.Can't wait till blooms appear.
