I usually use annuals like petunias or 30-36 inch snapdragons toward the garden bed edges. I try to position spring bulbs in sections that are viewable when blooming, but covered by taller perennials later in the spring/summer. I plant peonies in the corners and then cut back the greens on the peonies to nicely shape the bushes. The bushes are still pretty and stay green all season, and they cover up the dying bulbs. I try to keep the outside of the bed open to put annuals, thereby covering up the dying foliage of the spring bulbs. I also interplant allium (I call them the purple pom-pom flowers). They bloom later than the early spring bulbs and cover up the drying foliage nicely. Along the sunny edge of the bed I plant iris since they need to have the sun shining on the rhizomes to bloom. Good idea to take care of it while you can still see the dying foliage - on several occasions I have been surprised by a tulip or daffodil growing out of the middle of my perennials! :)

Part shade should not be a problem. Mine have been blooming in serious part shade for years and years. I'm just guessing about newbie decatur, but sometimes the ones I give away don't bloom well the first year. However, my daylilies are just now starting to put out the stalks with the buds on them (whatever those are called). So maybe yours are going to bloom this year - it's still a little early. Cindyabs, if yours bloomed in the past but aren't blooming now, I'm guessing that they need to be divided. Now, right before bloom season, isn't the best time to do it.

Daylilies got their name because each flower opens up for one day. Some, such as "STELLA D'ORO" will re-bloom after a rest of about a month, but some years even the re-bloomers don't make a second attempt. The secret, I think is to have early, mid-season and late bloomers in the same bed so you have a nice display for several months. I don't know about Z10, but here in Northern Il. my daylilies start blooming the end of May and different varieties put up scapes and blooms right through September. Actually, right now "PAPER BUTTERFLY" has put up numerous scapes but unfortunately, they will get frost bite before they get a chance to re-bloom.

Stellas are pretty dependable bloomers, but they do need regular division. I don't have Stellas any more, but mine would almost stop blooming if I didn't divide about every 3 or 4 years. Water and fertilizer probably wouldn't hurt, but I never bothered & they did well. Is it possible that you planted a little too deep? I looked up 24/7 day lilies, I certainly don't have any of those & not familiar with them. They look a bit like one I bought 3 or 4 years ago that was supposed to bloom better than Stella d'oro. Like yours, the label stated all summer bloom. I didn't expect that, but this was not impressive at all, very few blooms although they are pretty. Maybe someone else has more experience with yours.
