Well; yes and no. I used to work in an arena that allowed me to learn about substance abuse of all types. I have not heard of the exact practice you mention however, at the store! That must have stopped you in your tracks. It would have me. I await the introduction of signs like that in CA. It won't be long now, I guess. But you might be amazed to know what people do to enable themselves to get high. Ridiculous!

I find it very sad that with the amount of information that is out there so many turn to drugs of any kind. Health wise things can go wrong even when you are doing everything right. I sometimes wonder if kids had more self esteem, were taught how to deal with disappointments and in some cases failure they might be able to cope in today's society without looking for the next high. Everybody fails at something sometime in their lives, none of us are perfect.

I'd heard that the seeds had hallucinogenic properties, but have not yet seen them pulled from the racks in our area. OMGosh, I have a ziplock baggie filled with m.g. seeds I collected this past summer ... hope that doesn't get me on some kind of list! I was going to share/trade them, but don't want a "Possession with intent to distribute" charge hanging over my head! LOL

BTW, you can add automobile engine coolant to the list of restricted substances. I still haven't found out the reason for that one.

In some cases it has been known to be caused by too large of an ego and lack of direction and attention by parents. The kids are left to themselves to pretty much do anything they please; daddy or mommy bails them out and they never have to account for anything to anyone. If they are the only people who matter; then, why not? They can do anything they want and even defy death! A total lack of awareness of self and limitations and very few if any boundaries. Peer pressure accounts for some of it, too, in young people.

Today in our newspaper there was a report of a doctor who had been caught in inappropriate action with a minor. In some cases there is too much of the wrong kind of self-esteem! He was writing scripts for the young fellow, and also taking drugs himself. This is an adult.

There are a lot of addictions out there, and a lot of addicts, too.

I would think a physician should know better on both counts.

Hopflower, what you say is so true in some cases, parents failing to be parents, it can lead to total disaster. Parenting is not all fun and games. It's being there for your kids, giving them unconditional love but... kids have to learn by their mistakes and take responsibility for their actions. Parents who give their kids everything don't teach the value of things and when they bale their kids out they are not doing them any favors. Sometimes it takes tough love and yes, keeping some fingers crossed it will all work out. I think kids who have good self esteem have a better chance of dealing with peer pressure especially in todays world. My 3 and I are the best of friends now but when they were in their teens it was a different story :o).

That's what I was thinking too! I keep having to supervise/narc on kids invading my backyard who want to play with the hens (and end up caught in the roses). Maybe now I can warn their parents about the morning glory vines that pop up in the brambles. "Your kids have been gathering those seeds of the devil again!" Or maybe somebody will turn me in. Hmm...I could hang around the church school crowd downhill with dimebags of seeds. "Psst, hey kid, morning glories?" ; ) And think of how much more fun plant/seeds swaps might be. Furtive gardeners passing morning glories from trunk to trunk. Until the law shows up, anyway.

I would like to know who even "thought" of the idea of smoking or burning morning glory seeds.....someone with to much time, or someone desperate? If it ever even CROSSED my mind, I would be to chicken I would die from it. I am not a risk taker...

I agree, if people were "truly" accountable for their actions and the results of, there would be much less trouble in many areas of life..not just drug addiction. Enablers are just as wrong as addicts if you ask me....

If kids are going to egg someone's house they buy more than a dozen....I think.

How sick is that?! They don't want the kids to get high, so their solution is to poison them enough to make them psychotic or possibly KILL them?!

And, since this poison cannot be washed away, it will be on a consumer's hands and in their garden soil.

Kids are doing the same with angel trumpet seeds. We had a couple kids in a small town next to us, eat an handful of these seeds in a dare. They knew of the high effect, one kid 11 was having convulsion in the middle of the street from eating the angel trumpet seeds and was taken to Akron Children Hospital in critical condition, was there for sometime and I never heard if the child fully recovered.

I have to agree with you, keesha: It takes a bit of humility to admit you have a problem and then reach out for help and listen to those who can help you. Education in addiction is very important for the family and other loved ones, too. They call alcoholism a family disease as it truly does affect the whole sphere of family and loved ones. And we all know that enablers are usually very close to the addict; whatever the drug of choice is.

I can tell you, too, that it is a terrible thing to try to help people only to be told that as a nurse "I thought I was better and how did I know anything"? We go through a lot of abuse trying to help people.
