Just wondering if anyone knew of any major hybridizers who were listing on the Lily Auction and what their user name was. "Jbenz" is pretty obvious, but there must be others. -t.r.s.

This is funny! I love the comment about the bluebirder's getting a wren in one of their houses. Talk about OMG!!!!!Anyway, I noticed that prices on some of the new cultivar's on the lily action seem down.... expect for a few really hot selling one's. I figured it was the economy. It's kind of nice to be able to find a good buy once in a while. I've bought hundreds of my current 623 different daylilies on the auction and have had wonderful experiences and made some truly dear friends with many of these wonderful sellers. They have helped me so very much with my gardening--I've learned so much from them. Daylily people and gardener's (in my book) are the greatest people there are. They nurture the good earth. I have been watching Mary Janes (westbourne) listings on the LA and waiting for lots of 2012 intros to be listed. I knew she would do that as she lists her up coming intros on the LA each year like this. So just a matter of waiting until I saw ones I really wanted. So now I see there are new listings up tonight on the LA so lots of Westbournes to be had including (but now just only) 2012 intros. So if anyone is interested go right on over. Seller name of Bubbles on the LA.

I sold some seeds on the LA this year for the first time. Being just a hobbyist, I can understand folks like myself using photos from hybridizers or from other sources. You need moderately sophisticated image handling software to prepare a photo in the format that you need for posting on the LA and you need time. As for myself, I have been taking pictures of my flowers for a couple of years now so I wanted to use them - - even those blooming in my garden in their first year. Plus, I wanted to have both pod and pollen parents show in the thumbnail, so I had to make a special composite picture of the two individual parents. I wouldn't doubt that there is an easier ways to do it than I used, but posting 10-15 items at one time when I already had all the pictures and text ready ahead of time took me an hour or more. Getting the pictures ready will depend on an individual's computer abilities. A slightly easier way to do it is to post the picture of one parent only, but I think that limits what your potential purchaser wants to see. At the same time, there are a number of folks who have been listing seeds for several years. They may not be "daylily professionals" in the strict sense of the word, but they are far out of my league. I would think that they would be able to use their own pictures. However, you will find that many well knows sellers of plants as well as seeds use the hybridizer's pictures or those from Tinker's Database for their postings. How many times have you seen a picture other than the hybridizer's picture for Bass Gibson or Mort Morss? I haven't seen many. One last thing - - if you use someone else's photo, you are suppose to either get their permission first and/or credit them with the photo in your text. That's wonderful information, now if I just knew which one to bid on and who was the most reliable I'd have it made.

I just bid on what I see and if I like it and the price. LOL That's the only way I know to bid. I wish I could say I know EXACTLY who I'm dealing with when I do make all those purchases.

Will keep this information somewhere along with all my other scribbled notes. It may come in very handy one day.

The Boykins sell under 2 names. She is Bigstump and he is Pinebeltman. They will combine shipping if you win something from both names. I highly recommend them.

Can not forget "Ahead".. who is Steve Todd. Known mostly for his fantastic fall seed auctions, he has also introduced some stunning hems! I believe John Rice of Thoroughbred Gardens sells Steve's work. Hybridizer.net hosts pictures of seedlings and intros from many up and coming folks...including Steve's.

Here's a couple of more to add to the list (some are nurseries as well)

Teelily = Teresa Bettencourt (she is taking over Stan and Bonnie Holley's intros starting 2014...I received awesome plants from her this fall!)
Maryotts = Maryotts (although I've only seen them bidding, not selling)

Possomhollow = Delano Daylilies (Karen Newman...if you're local she lets you pick up to save shipping)
SonjaMae = Wynn's Daylily Gardens (they'll combine auction and website purchases...I've also done that with Daredevil, Northern Lights and Woodhenge)

Sandy Perkins from Athens, Tx and partner Doug are sandyp60. I have visited their place the last couple of years and they have some lovely lilies - they are registering quite a few - one I have is Black Eyed Gypsy. Lovely people, beautiful garden - highly recommended.
