Very nice!...and cut dog!

I saw you were growing Acer negundo. Folks in the midwest typically avoid this weed tree. I mainly depise it because of the boxelder bugs that it attracts. You probably think the same thing about some plants we try to grow over here that are of European orgin!

tj, he seems to be thinking a lot, kind of a philosopher, he is quite calm for a 4 weeks old puppy, and he is quite fat, so Buda came up and that was his name'o! Lol! He's named Buda. I know, I know, weird but seems suitable for the case.

Will(?), there are three trees planted near, I think two male and one female, so they produce seedlings along the side of the road. I tried to root some and they were all succesful and vigorous. I don't have space for such big tree (with the conifers I'm reserving my space for) and I'll try to train some of them as bonsai and give some away. My room left is reserved for some choice conifers that will be planted in the coming vacations.

I find very boring European cypress trees like sempervirens that are overused here and naturaly occuring everywhere... dull trees... Open and fastigiate forms...

Holly, it makes you wonder how can somebody just leave them (in an abandoned house in the woods just above my property) to die when only 1 week old.... I took him, his brother and sister. I found already a home for his brother and I'm looking one for his sister. I'm keeping this fat ball myself!

Yeah! absolutely right Josh! Thank you very much. I pruned some of the dead branches down there in the morning. I lost the dog for two hours before I realised that he was under the cedar, so I grubed my camera...
I hope he is enlighted though when it comes to 'make his needs' in my garden and when time comes to chew for his new teeth... I hope I'm lucky!
As usual, I grow more seeds than I can handle and I run like crazy to care for all of them. So they have higher value for me. Like babies...

Fotis - human beings are cruel to each other so I guess it should come as no surprise that we can be cruel to other animals as well. Great to know that there are people like you who are willing - and able -to rescue abandoned puppies. And Buda is definitely a keeper! With training, I am sure that he will know what to do and what not to do in your garden!

Do you give away/sell the seedlings at some point? Or do you have enough room, like acres, so that you can plant them and keep them for yourself?

Sadly I don't have much space left especially for big conifers so I'm heading towards dwarfs and minis to fill the thirst. But growing seedlings is a 'disease' so I'm sure I'll be giving away and selling them at some far point. I try to keep room for at least one of every kind I'm growing. Especially for some firs like Abies pindrow, grandis, pinsapo, koreana, lasiocarpa, amabilis. I lke them firs!

Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Ogon' is an eye catcher. You will be pleased. How much sun does yours get? Mine is zone six and about a week ahead of yours leafing out.

Yes I can't wait to see it in full leaf. Mine gets about 3-4 hours of noon shading because in zone 8 I believe it will be needed until it gets taller than the shading plants. Yours should be fully established so it is pumping water more efficiently and pushisng the buds better than mine which was planted in early october. But mines roots were just reaching the pot walls when I took it out of the pot so it was perfect timing for planting and it should fully established by next year so... we'll get you next year Tornado!!!LoL I saw yours in that other thread and it was beautifuly spring colored in lime green. I hope mine looks like it...

Unfortunately I had some severe losses. The dogs seem to have a taste for the tops of the most rare and hard to bring to Greece conifers, including the 'Skylands' I got from you. So I'm back a year or two in upwards growth. They aim only for the top and maybe one or two of the top-side branches. Do you have any good 'Skylands' grafts if I need to compensate for this sad thing?

Fotis, I always have a nice amound of 'Skylands' in stock.
Maybe you can save the one in your garden by making a side branch as a new leader, you have to do some cut work maybe and you have to stake it...good luck!

Your 'Holger' is in reality a Juniperus horizontalis 'Limeglow'.

Pinus mugo 'Mughus' must be written as
Pinus mugo var. mughus.
I think it's variations derives from several seedlings together in pot at the nursery it came from...

The show of the 'Picea glauca 'Rainbow's End' still have to begin, it's second flush will be a whitish-yellow.

Is 'Golden Smaragd' the true cultivar name?
From where did you obtain it?

I was hoping it wasn't a 'Holger' but a 'Limeglow' because the later has better form and holds the color all year round! I am happy now you confirmed!
Also I am relieved you told me that the second flush will me more of a show with 'Rainbow's End'. Now I have something to wait for even after spring.
Thank you as well about var. mughus! I can't tell wether this tree is a mix of seddlings but I love it the way it is! I keep an eye on the left part as well because it holds yellow tips in late spring. If it holds yellow-golden tips throughout summer it is going to be grafted at february 2013 for sure.
About the Thuja. I don't know if it is the proper name. It is supposed to be a golden form of the popular 'smaragd' with perhaps a slower growing rate but equal shape. I bough two of them from a nursery in Germany (along with some other hedging conifers to build an evergreen hedge) very cheap, to highlight some spots in the garden. Does it look like something else to you?

I think with 6-7 acres, you can call it an acretum or whatever you want. That's quite a bit of space. And that view.....man that is gorgeous. If I got up to that view everyday, I'd just sit there and stare at it.

Your garden is looking great. You're having really good response with a lot of light sensitive varietals considering your a zone 8. So I assume it is a very mildly temperate 8.

But you have some really nice plants.

Thank you Mark. Yes the view is perfect for me and I wish I was waking up every morning there, but unfortunately I don't. Every weekend perhaps. The space I have for a garden is less than an acre. Sadly, not all of the space there is my property. The sensitive conifers are protected by the hot afternoon sun artificialy and the maples are in a natural shade from taller native trees during most of the day hours.
I'm thinking of shading 'Early Gold' as wel now the summer is near. Overall yes I would say you are totally right! It is a mild zone 8 here!
