anyone buy via mail order from Mountain Meadow Dwarf Conifers?

I'm after a couple unique conifers and this site seems to have a few I'm after that I can't seem to find elsewhere. I've run a search but hear no mention of them at all so I'm curious if anyone has purchased from them and can give a review.

I've never purchased from them, nor do I see any reviews about them. However, I wouldn't hesitate to give them a try. Just because they have a picture of there nursery on the main page and if you go to there facebook page, they have pictures of individual plants and a tour. To me, showing what the plants look like a head of purchase along with pictures of the nursery, is better than a review.

I will add them to my list to try out.

Thanks! I am definitely going to give them a try but since I've not done a mail order and am new to gardening, I'm still not 100% sure what a "healthy" or root bound plant looks like or what a "good packaging job" looks like. Also, I could also easily be sucked in to paying for a 1 gallon plant put in a 5 gallon pot and not know any better! LOL I guess I could always post photos once I get them and everyone else can hopefully educated me from there :)

I ordered one tree from Arboreum and didn't receive it during the normal planting season, despite numerous emails to them. I finally did receive the tree. Then a few weeks later received an email asking if I received my tree. I told them I did. Received another email from them a while later telling me the carrier mistakenly sent my tree to Bucyrus, Ohio instead of Bucyrus KS and they couldn't track the tree down. I told them I had already received my tree, but they sent me another one anyway. I ended up getting both trees in very good condition. Aboreum gets a "D" in communication, but I give them a "B+" (or even an A-) overall because their stock is very good and they really do try to satisfy their customers in the end. They just need to read their emails. I ordered just a couple different plums to try from Burnt Ridge. One was OK, but the other had pretty bad damage to the trunk (damage about 2/3 the way through the trunk). Tree did leaf out and is still alive. I got 25 trees from Adams. They were fine except that one tree had an active crown gall on the roots, which confirmed why I've seen crown gall on some of their trees I've dug up and moved. I've had a couple bad experiences in the past with C&O and probably won't order from them again. One problem as Milehigh mentioned, is the extra fees they tack on, making their trees expensive. Another issue is that one year they couldn't fill my order because frigid winter weather killed some of their stock. That's understandable, but they kept my deposit money (as a credit to my account) instead of sending it back to me. This happened once with Arboreum, but like any good business, Arboreum refunded my money to me in the form of a check.

Wayside gardens used to be really great. But they were bought by Park Seed and that was the end of customer service and quality for Wayside. They ship plants haphazardly and tiny plants in big quarts size pots and charge for quart size root balls. You can't get any one from customer service on the phone nor do they answer emails and the order takers can't help you solve a problem. Read the many negative reviews Wayside has now over in Garden watchdog. Out of 805 reviews, they have 372 negative, 125 neutral and 308 positive. I'd bet most of those positives are pretty old. What really cracks me up is that Wayside always answers every negative review with a "we couldn't find your order from this information, so please contact us with your order number, and we'll make this right." When they posted that on my two negative reviews, I pointed out that I had included my order number and email in the review because I had read their previous responses, so why were they still having trouble contacting me. Way, way on the other end of the spectrum, Santa Rosa, Annies Annuals, and Lazy S'S Farm, Plant Delight all provide great customer service, knowledgeable people if you call with questions, super well packed plants, and wide variety of plants that you won't find anywhere else. And Geraniaceae.com is the most incredible specialty nursery for hardy geraniums, erodiums and pelargonium.

www.evergreenplantnursery.com has both types of Junipers that what you want listed. The plants won't be that big. The prices are very reasonable thou. Worth a shot I have ordered before a few times and the plants have been very good... growing young plants unlike other places I have ordered from that sent plants that have been sitting in a small pot rootbound for a long time. I bought a Japanese maple from them last fall, planted it within 24 hours. It was dormant, but seemed to be OK. This spring, there were buds. The leaves were slow to emerge from the buds, though (other Japanese maples in the neighborhood were in full leaf before the buds started opening). And then about six weeks ago, everything went dead. The buds/leaves seemed dead, but the trunk was still green, so I did not (yet) despair. I made sure it was watered once a week. At first, it looked like there might be new buds, but those have not materialized, and the trunk is now black. In short, the tree never leafed out. I contacted them, and they said their policy is to not provide refunds after 48 hours of receipt of the tree. I have bought plants regularly from a handful of places, and this is the first time I have had anyone refuse to either replace or refund. More than $200 down the drain. No leaves ever. I will not be buying from Plant Lust again.

the only way to learn.. is order them up.. and compare.. over the years ... thats how we all learned ....

that was why i showed pix of the box i got ...

as to what you get.. understand.. first.. that growing trees in pots is tough .... and you should grow on the understock for a year or two.. before you ever graft ....

and that grafted stock should be grown on for a few years after the graft ..... before it is sold..

in my world.. that means a tree in a pot for a number of years.. and i find it amusing.. all the complaining about trees being root bound ... on some level... though obviously.. extreme pot bound is another thing ...

that said.. it would be best.. if you can get them dormant.. and plant them dormant ... as it lessens your need for supreme aftercare ... its really hard to plant something just budded out.. and not stress the bee-gee-bees out of it ... so time is of the essence ... depending where the seller is ... so your first concern.. after getting them.. will be whether they can go straight in the ground in regard to frost/freeze ...

i dont recall offhand.. your background.. ask if you need info on how to PROPERLY : plant, water and mulch....

and NEVER FORGET.. just because you got it.. doesnt mean its proper to plant it immediately.. if i dont get mine in by 5/1 .. they will remain in the pots until fall planting season .... NOTHING gets planted.. in my sand.. in summer... as i wont be able to perfect PROPER WATERING... on the 5 acres ... in other words.. one or more will get forgotten ...

just do it.. and learn.. and we will help ..

Thanks Ken, I didn't realized the time frame was so short. I guess I better get a move on! So that probably answers your question on my background...zero, zilch, zippo....this is my first garden and I have no idea what I'm doing...lol

Still waiting to hear back from the nursery as to a price for shipping. I will likely order and hopefully I can get them in the ground soon. I will post photos when I get them and go from there!
