Nagami Kumquat - some questions

Hello all,

I have a Nagami Kumquat which is 3 years old. Well - I've had it 3 years. The first two years it ripened it's kumquats in December. This year the kumquats are much larger and very prolific than before and have begun to turn color. They are still green but starting to turn orange - some more than others. The tree is beginning to drop a few leaves - which it does each year BUT only when I bring it inside and it is still outside. I bring the tree inside during winter and set out in early spring when night temps are expected to stay above 35F. I have two questions:

1. How long can I leave the tree outside? Last year it came inside when night temps began to go below 35F.

2. Is there a set time when kumquats ripen -or- do they vary like Meyer Lemon and have ripe and green fruit together?

Thanks,

DL
