I have a similar Stapelia, and after mine flowers, the whole flower stem shrivels up. I have a feeling this may develop into a seed pod, (lucky you!) though I rarely have two flowers open at once to pollinate.

Mine does this on occassion. I've never had it develop a seed pod though. It will eventually fall off. It's just the stem from the flower. Mine just finished blooming but now has a ton of buds again. Yeah! Such beautiful flowers but sooo stinky.

Mine is getting new buds to. and i thought the silly things were sposed to go dormant now.

This one doesn't stink as bad as some. I know a few can be bad! LOL!! But I just love them!

Seed horns usually develop much closer to the stem (so the weight of the maturing pods is easier to bear for the plant, I guess).

This makes sense. The crazy things flop over if you just breath on them or look at them wrong.. LOL!!

My Stapelia hirsuta just bloomed. I'm a little dissapointed. It's missing the yellow it should have, but is very fuzzy! So cool!

If I ever do get a seed pod I will post it so others will be able to see.

When you get a seed pod, you'll see why the Stapeliads and the Adeniums/Pachypodiums/Plumerias et.al. have been put together into one plant family - the pods are identical, and the seeds are, too, pretty much.

This is my Stapelia gettleffii bloom from a couple years ago. It just bloomed twice lately.

I just love these plants, and the flowers. The odor has never been overpowering, but if you do take a deep whiff close to the flower, sometimes it can be, well, interesting.

You don't need a new camera, you are doing just fine. Take a breath and hold until you snap the picture. Or lean against the doorway or something to hold you steady, or rest your elbows on the table to the camera won't jiggle, you are really doing well and thanks for the pictures. Norma

Here a pic of my Stapeliad Hirsuta a very unusual shade of red, I had six flowers on it this year, but no seed pods, maybe next year. Oh yes it is a real stinker

Bear~~ What a beauty! So fuzzy! Your's is missing the yellow to. HMMM??? The pic I found on the net shows a yellow ring in the center, and most of the leaf, only the maroon towards the tip. From the Martin Heigan site..

Now my second bud to open any day isn't near as red as this one looked, so hoping for the yellow.

But still, an awsome bloom! Does yours have the white hairs on the edge, mine has snow white.

Now, yours is flat... mine the petals have curled back. A few of my others do to.. Is this normal to curl.?

Those are all awesome flowers. Nice to know they don't ALL smell so horrible.

Well It turns out this is a seedpod!!! And its growing fast! LOL! Boy was I excited to see this!!!

Hubby took the picture with my new camera last night. So far I like the looks of the pics. now I just need to learn how to use the darn thing! LOL!

Thanks! I love seeing seed pods form on all my plants and flowers! I have several more of these stems on other plants, so I'm hoping they too become seeds.

These plants are so much fun you can never have too many. lol!

A very long time ago, I had a plant that looked similar. It never bloomed for me, though... and now, I'm kind of glad it didn't! I have a rather sensitive nose!

They are rather interesting flowers, though! Nice photos!
