My little project today!

I've been searching high and low for creative ways to pot some of my succulents. I have a few ideas and some things I'm planning to use. I decided to give it a try today! It's an old citronella candle that came in a cute tin and was all used up.

First I boiled some water and set it over the boiling the water to get the majority of the wax out of it.

Once I got the majority of the wax out I poured the boiling water in to the tin and scrubbed it with a wire pad. Then I washed it 2 times in scalding hot water and soap just to be sure everything was out of it.

Then I took it outside and used a screwdriver and hammer to put 5 holes in the bottom, filled it with dirt and planted some Sempervivum Tectorum in it! I think it turned out really well!

That is wonderful Tami!! I'm about to take on a similar project. Hubby is getting our back deck built on a new house and I'm wanting to do a little fence work for our dear pups. I'm thinking a little paver patio like you have, a space for two to sit and quietly reflect on the day. Nice landscaping around in pots and the fence giving additional privacy. Thanks for the wonderful picture and ideas!! I definitely need to find a good junk store around here! :-)

Taraleigh: Any container will do. I've used cottage cheese containers, ziplock containers, tupperware :) anything. They need some room, plenty of food and air holes at the top of the container. Saran wrap works fine, but you might want to use a rubberband or something to keep it in place. I put paper towels at the bottom and add in a few sticks. The caterpillars will usually choose a stick to attach to when they go into their chrysalis. You will need to change the paper towels every day or two, they are pooping machines :) Once they are in their chrysalis, I usually take the stick, (or whatever they used and attach that to a stick) and stick it in flower foam to hold it upright. I put it in a mesh laundry bag and stick it on the porch. I leave it outside at that point just in case a caterpillar ended up getting parasitized.

Well, I finally got through to my DIL last night. She said that they called the doctor about the fever and he said to wait and see if it continued and then call him back if it did. She said that it gets high, they give tylenol, then it goes down, then repeats the cycle. I told her if it keeps coming back there is an infection somewhere, and it could be because of the operation or just a cold or something. She said that Tristin was pretty quiet and lethargic yesterday after spending the day before that just crying. I told her to monitor that temp and not to be shy about calling the doctor back. If it continues today, to CALL HIM BACK. We will see how it goes today. Sherry

Yes the new tin pot does look lovely.

Some advice going forward since you've said you're a newbie.

When watering rosette forms of succulents, like Echeverias, Aeoniums, it's best not to get water in the center of the rosette, as it increases their danger of rotting. Even for less rosette forms like Aloes, Haworthias, & Gasterias the same holds true, best to water around the edge of the pot or outer edge of the plant.

Also, those powdery looking leaves like the Echeveria, damage easily when touched & the marks won't go away, so it's best to try to touch those leaves as little as possible & handle those plants by their stems for repotting, etc.
