DS is obviously much more inclined to grow straight up ... faster ... and thinner ... otherwise .. they are both green arbs with similar needle shape ... ken...See MoreWhere can I purchase tall Thuja Green Giants?

This hardy, fast growing, conifer makes a perfect privacy screen in just a few short years. Green Giant will grow from 3 to 5 feet per year and will eventually grow to 50 feet or more with a fairly narrow spread. The color is a deep lustrous green and is pleasantly fragrant. Green Giant will grow in a wide range of soils in zones 5 to 8 and prefers a deep well drained fertile soil although it adapts well to frequently saturated clay soils. This is a tough tree and will not easily suffer damage from high wind or heavy ice and snow loads. Green Giant is drought tolerant after it is well established, exhibits no significant pest or disease problems, is deer and bagworm resistant and is hardy to -25F. This new USDA US National Arboretum release as Green Giant has been evaluated since 1967 and will become the outstanding alternative screening-evergreen to the disease prone Leyland Cypress in the south and to the Hemlocks that are dying throughout New England. Comments (17)Yes, there's no question that what gets called 'Lutea' is too yellow to fit the concept of 'Elegantissima'. And that's all 'Elegantissima' may really be, a concept rather than a clearly defined cultivar. 'Aureospicata' is the name that seems to be represented by real plants that fit the bill, with stock sold as 'Elegantissima' perhaps being the same variety traveling under a superfluous name. Again, the thing to understand is that cultivar names get misapplied to plants that aren't from the original selection process, with the result that old names like the ones being discussed here are liable to have become represented by multiple independent introductions over time. It's not necessarily equivalent to wild species, where there is expected to be a clearly defined, unique entity bearing a specific name. Except where it happens only a single clone was ever introduced and circulated there may have been multiple different plants traded under the same cultivar name. When this is the case if nobody has ever recognized these and sorted them out then a cultivar does not exist as "the" 'Aureospicata' and "the" 'Elegantissima' for instance....See MoreThuja occidentalis cv, Part 2
Comments (9)Very nice plant indeed Clément, but as you could have seen in the "Thuja occidentalis cv. Part " I mentioned that it must be written as 'Brobeck's Tower'. This seedlingselection from 'Spiralis' is found by Anders Brobeck from Sweden. 'Sphaerica' Selected in the U.K. 'Watnong Dwarf' Selected by the Watnong Nursery, U.S. 'Golden Tuffet' An Iseli selection, found as a mutation on a 'Rheingold'. It seems to be more populair in Europe then in the U.S. as I don't see it posted by anyone else here. 'Vervaenean's Gold' This is a yellow mutation found on a 'Vervaeneana'. The 'Vervaeneana' was selected by M. Verveane from Belgium. In front of the 'Vervaenean's Gold' there's a 'Malonyana' which is one of the best column forms, it's found as a seedlingselection in the Czech Republic. 'Spotty Smaragd' Found by myself as a white variegated mutation on a 'Smaragd'. Simular mutations were found like the 'Starstruck' which do have the same characteristics. 'Strasko W.B.' I received this one from Jan Slama from the Czech Republic during the Poland-Czech Replublic Tour with the British- and Dutch Conifer Societies in 2008....See Moredeltaohioz5
