I was looking thru some pictures of my hellebore and found this...I just love them :)

Oh, no not another plant to get addicted to, lol. Thats very pretty I've not seen it before. I got a hoya the other day and its new for me also. I hope it does well.

Pretty, I will have to research that one. I have some Chalice vines and I read they were relatives of the Brugmansia and some people were going to try to cross breed them. Got to love the flower family....

Hi Gardenweed, Thanks for the tips re: planting schedules - that makes sense to me, and is pretty much what I would have guessed, but nice to have it confirmed by someone with more experience. How fortunate you are to have grown up with gardening parents, and to have inherited all that good soil yÃ¢ÂÂall built up over the years! IÃ¢ÂÂm in the house my husband grew up in, and I donÃ¢ÂÂt think his folks were much into gardening, so each year I try to carve out and claim another little bed or corner as time and energy allowÃ¢ÂÂ¦ That is a shame about your laptop (and job) crashing. My husband & I have a computer shop here in our small town, and he also teaches computer classes at our local library, one of which is photo editing. For that one he has his students use Magix Xtreme, which I believe is a free download - might be a useful (and cheaper) alternative to Photoshop. Not to get too far off gardening here, but we are also sometimes-sailors! We bought a MacGregor 25 in 2006, and took it on a big adventure sailing down the gulf coast of Florida for 5 weeks in 2007. Since then, we try to get out on our nearest lake for a month or so each year, where we can dock it and leave it for a few week end visits with friends. HavenÃ¢ÂÂt had a chance to do any sailing this year, since our shop assistant quit at the end of Feb - too many computers to fix in this town. He has occasionally hinted at chucking it all and taking up the live-aboard cruising lifestyle, to which I always have to point out that as appealing as that sounds, it is very hard to garden on a boat! :) CanÃ¢ÂÂt have all our hobbies in one basket, unfortunately. IÃ¢ÂÂll keep those hostas in mind when I get around to planting. (Good tip about the egg shells!) IÃ¢ÂÂm in our local garden club, and that seems like something some of my fellow members might have, so maybe I can get some shares, if thatÃ¢ÂÂs not too hard to do. Hi Vineyarder - Welcome to garden web! You're certainly right about many "old weeds" being bred into great plants. Aside from asters, sambucus comes to mind as another native that was improved by plant breeders overseas before becoming popular here. The problem that sometimes arises is when the refined plants produce lots of seedlings that are not gardenworthy. I've seen this with other variegated plants, specifically Ampelopsis (porcelain berry vine). The hybrid form was lovely and, truthfully, it only threw about 4 seedlings over several years. The problem was that the seedlings quickly became rampant, uncontrollable monsters; the only way to prevent the problem was to eradicate the lovely variegated vine as well as all the offspring. Had a similar experience with butterfly bush - although I liked the wild ones enough that I eventually removed the "improved" hybrid parent plant, and just keep a few "wild" seedlings each year.

I went with Castelvetro Misingi Tile 5" X 32" in Suber color, a really nice, warm taupe grey. I think it looks every bit as good as the Porcelanosa tiles and we've gotten many compliments on the floor. In fact that usually seems to be the first thing everyone mentions when they see the room. It was about a quarter of the price of the Porcelanosa, I ordered online from Aubrey Flooring and was very happy with them. Luckily I was able to see a sample at local showroom first though, because the color looked too brown online. Unfortunately the local dealer wouldn't price match so after confirming it was the same item # we ended up going with Aubrey.

My dh hardly ever looks at mine. I think he just never thinks of it. When I do show it to my dd (2 1/2), she loves it, but doesn't want me tobother reading any of my journaling to her. Which really stinks because I journal a LOT. Im sure she'll appreciate that part when she's older. :) I guess I don't show mine around enough. My mom seems pretty unimpressed with the whole thing (I think she thinks this is just another passing fad that I'll get bored with) so doesn't comment much besides the normal "oh that's really nice. Do I have to read everthing?" I hate it when she says that. GRrrr.

I grow Hellebores-they are naturalizing in my yard everywhere! And they are putting up their scapes right now!!

I have 7-8 varieties, altho the most are the orientalis!

Theresa- you place your seeds in slightly damp good potting soil (no added fertilizer) in a baggie and store in your frig- check on them once in a while to see if they are germinating- you will see tiny roots in the soil.

They are very hardy but JIM, you need to check their zone range, to see how they will do for you in Texas. I have lots of seedlings to trade ( hint, hint) and they can be shipped now in cold weather. They are done blooming by Spring- great winter flower.

We have several varieties and have several seedlings in their second year. We just plant these in the fall when the seeds are fresh as they have a short period in which they should be planted. Put them in their own tray of fresh potting soil and put sand over the top is all we did last fall. Or one can let mother nature do her thing and then did up seedlings in the spring at the feet of the mother plant?

I love them too. Have bunches of them and they do re-seed all over. Just finished cutting off all the old leathery leaves on mine because a few have buds already. Jim, I checked my notes and I'm showing zones 5-7 on these... I'm guessing you might not have enough of a cold period there for them to do well, but I don't really know...If you want to try some I've got blooming size plants I can send you. It takes several years from seed to get blooming size...

Oh Kylie, you are welcome to some too if you want to try them! Got to wait until after bloom time though...I think they're going to be earlier this year than usual and possibly within the next couple of weeks in their full glory. They bloom for a month or longer.

Brenda or anybody here ever been to Picadilly Farms in Bishop, GA? They have thousands blooming when they do their open house. It's a sight to see.

They are evergreen, tho, and make a nice foundation planting for a shady setting.

I can send you some later that will be blooming size, okey? remind me about April!!
