Who besides you likes your albums the best?

Okay I know you all LOVE your albums, but who besides you likes them the best? Is it your kids, hubby, mother, dad, friend, etc..? Penny

My 2 year old dd LOVES looking at all the albums. Her own, her brother's, my Australia album. I made a wedding one for my mom, she (my mom) loves it and loves showing it off. It gets lots of compliments.

Funny, my ds#2 (whose album is done birth to 5 years) doesn't look at it much. Ds#1 eagerly awaits his; I'm sure when it's done, he'll love it more than ds#2 likes his. :( oh well, can't please everyone all the time (especially kids, eh?)

My kids look at them constantly. I've only completed one for my ds, birth to 2 years. He is only 2 1/2 but he knows it is his and loves it. I am working on two for my dd at the same time. One is just school starting with preschool, i.e. first day, class pictures and achievements. The second is everything else she does such as sports and dance. She is always looking at them and showing them to friends when they come over.

Mar: You funny thing, you! You don't need tactics with lil' ol' me. :o) To download fonts, this is what I do (BTW, I kind of fumbled through it myself so I hope this makes sense). First of all, I went to the winzip homepage and downloaded the free trial version of winzip. Then I visited some font sites. Here are some I recommend: Font Freak and Font Face. But check out ScrapLink because there are more listed there. Anyhoo, you just click on the fonts you like and the downloading part kicks in (which you seem to have the hang of already!). Once that's done, click on your winzip program and it will prompt you through all the steps of "unzipping" the font. Then, it's a matter of "cut and paste". You want to paste it into your font folder (you can find that by going to "start", then "control panel", and "fonts" should be in there). Once I did this, I just went into Word and the font was there, ready to use! I hope that helps a little. Tammy: What a compliment that I remind you of your daughter in some way! Thank you! *warm fuzzies* I'm still trying to "convert" my mom into a scrappin' freak -- maybe you could talk to her and give her a little push, eh? ;o) Lore: Actually...*hee hee*...I've had to improvise a lot when it comes to my SB hobby. I'm limited to Michael's as my main SB supplier and although they have some neat stuff, in my opinion their 8.5 x 11 album selection isn't great (they had ONE in different colours and it was too expensive). So, I visited numerous photography/camera places and found an "almost no name" (because I don't even remember the brand) 3-ring photo album to use. It was something like 7 bucks. I just made sure it was archival quality. Reading Week (Canadian version of Spring Break) is coming up soon so I'm actually planning a road trip with the specific mission of crossing the border in search of SB stores! LOL! Hmmm..what a great question! I have several favourites..but I think that my all time favourite one, isn't even a creative one to look at. It just has one small picture of my oldest son, as a baby, being held by our elderly next door neighbours. The ENTIRE page is journaling!! I tell my son the story of Jack and Hazel..how they met, and about their life together. I tell him about how they would take him out in their garden on sunny days and he would come home, little lips stained red from all the strawberries and raspberries he had eaten. I tell him how much Jack and Hazel loved him, and the story of Jack's illness and stroke, and how my son would go over and sit on Jack's bed and "talk" with him..I tell him how I think the two of them had a language only their hearts could hear. I tell my son, of when Jack became an Angel, and I try as only a mom can do, to explain about heaven...hmmmmm...never really thought of this as my favourite page, but when the question was asked, it was the first page I thought of!! My ds, is now nine and still loves to read that page. ~Mar~

I learned a lot about lighting from a hotel in Winston-Salem NC where I stayed a number of times on business in the 80's. The Brookstown Inn is a converted cotton mill with lots of exposed brick and overhead beams in the guest rooms. Because the ceilings are so high and irregular they were forced to do all of the lighting with wall sconces, floor lamps and table lamps. Only one lamp in the room was on the wall switch by the door. All of the others were individually controlled by switches on the fixtures. I quickly found that I liked having good light where I was in the room and minimal light in the rest of the space. It felt very comfortable. In remodeling our house we removed all ceiling lighting except for one pendant lamp in the kitchen and a second one over the dining table. The former is just 78" from the floor. The latter is adjustable and is currently just 26" above top of the table. All of our other lighting is by wall sconces, table lamps and floor lamps. The effect of this kind of lighting is to transform the spaces at night. We can paint and furnish the space for a light and open appearance during the day and control the lighting for a snug and cozy appearance at night.

Joann: Thank you for the design and all of the example pics. You and your DH are really very talented. Did either or you ever do this work professionally or is it a hobby? Thank you for highlighting all of the architectural details. That is exactly what I need to see. DH and I were debating about this glass as the side panels are quite narrow so your pics are very helpful to visualize the whole effect. I should mention here that this is not a fully custom shop. We basically get to pick different door/cabinet styles, wood species/stain/hardware, height/width, drawers and component configuration so I may not be able to order some of the lovely design details you incorporated, though I will bring in the pics and inquire about it on Sat. I did notice the bottom doors on the console are not full overly which it looks like you designed for the sides. I'm going to guess my top option will not be full overlay so we'll see. Also, my hinges are not the euro style on bottom and stick out the sides. Wouldn't they need to match? As the TV is 50" wide, I was thinking of having the center opening be 51". Then in the vertical direction with the TV height at 31" I was thinking we should add a bit of beathing room--say about 3" extra on top so the TV box would then be 51"W x 34"H. I think I'll check the TV specs to see any ventillation requirements, though I know DH wants some holes in the back for cables, etc. I notice hoosiergirl's TV is very tightly set into the built-in. I'll let you know what they come up with when we go in over the weekend.

My dh hardly ever looks at mine. I think he just never thinks of it. When I do show it to my dd (2 1/2), she loves it, but doesn't want me tobother reading any of my journaling to her. Which really stinks because I journal a LOT. Im sure she'll appreciate that part when she's older. :)

I guess I don't show mine around enough. My mom seems pretty unimpressed with the whole thing (I think she thinks this is just another passing fad that I'll get bored with) so doesn't comment much besides the normal "oh that's really nice. Do I have to read everthing?" I hate it when she says that. GRrrr.

I'd HAVE to say that my dh also LOVES my pages (havent actually 'finished' a whole album yet). At first I thought it was only cuz I'm ALWAYS asking for his input while working, but came to find out he thinks I come up with most of the ideas myself afterall, lol.

Nobody in my family likes them as much as I do. My dad will look at them; my mom likes to read all the journaling. My DH gives them a perfunctory glance, and my DS just thinks they're embarrassing. (He's nine, and approaching the "Mom, don't sing!" stage. LOL)

it would be a toss up between my mother and my 11 year old, his brothers arent interested in em at all but dakota loves to look em and my mother drags out all 28 of em when she is here.

My two boys love their albums....especially my five year old. He calls it his alVum...little bit of trouble with the "l" and "v" sounds yet! LOL
My nine year old loves to look at his, but his younger brother is constantly finding "unique memorabilia" that he would like to put in his "alvum"
We just returned from a glorious week at the cottage and brought home with us several very large, very hairy, very squashed and very dead ....dock spiders that he would like me to incorporate into some kind of cottage layout!
What the hell.....its HIS alvum!! LOL
