Suggestions for plants with eastern exposure?
Comments (3)It might be easier to list plants that wouldn't like a nice east window. That's primo real estate, IMO, where almost any plant would be happy except those that are extremely sensitive to direct light. East window offers plenty of bright beautiful sun but not the harsher rays and heat of afternoon. Coleus and AV are excellent candidates although Coleus may quickly outgrow the space (but wouldn't mind being pruned and pinched into whatever size/shape you like.) I would encourage you to investigate wax Begonias. They are such a joy the way they bloom all the time, would LOVE an east window. Comes in red, white, pink flowers....See MoreQuestions on planting Jade plants
Comments (18)Oh yeah, I did get both. I couldn't say no to the first one after he cut it so I told him I wanted both. I paid a pretty penny but they were both worth it. I was actually able to get a pretty tall cutting from both. I literally came back upstairs after rigging the 20" so that it wouldn't lean/fall over. I'll post a few pics tomorrow. I couldn't find sticks anywhere in the house and there weren't any usable branches outside. There are leaves everywhere but no branches that were useful. You might actually laugh when you see how I did it. Again, I'll post the pics tomorrow. Thanks for your idea though. I'm going to have to stock up on those tongue depressors/popsicle sticks though....See MoreGrow light for a jade plant
Comments (2)Hey, Mike! If it can't get enough light via the window, then a grow-light will help considerably! I'm sure you've seen the many "Jade Whacking!" Threads at this Forum. My advice would be to prune your Jade back - as compact as possible, while still maintaining the form that you desire. You don't want your Jade spending its energy on etoliated branches and stems (as you mentioned), and the pruning will reduce that strain. Plus, a pruned plant is easy to turn for even sunning, and the reduced foliage will allow the light to better reach the interior trunk/s. After you prune, provide as much light as you can. If you need tips on pruning, posting a pic would be best. Josh...See MoreSouthern exposure plants?
Comments (5)Tons of them! Tree-like entities such as Ficus elastica (rubber tree,) Schefflera (umbrella tree,) Gardenia, Plumeria (Frangipani,) Rosemary, Banana. Other plants such as Sansevieria (snake plant,) Cannas. Countless lovely succulents, such as Kalanchoes, Crassulas (Jade plant & tons of cousins,) Echeverias, Aeoniums (desert rose,) Tradescantia pallida (purple heart,) various Senecios, Euphorbias, Sedums. In general, I'd avoid dark colored pots. Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi (lavender scallops):...See Moregreenman28 NorCal 7b/8a
