Do ya do the Blackeyed peas and Greens? I love Greens and I always boil up a pot of Blackeyed Peas with Ham and Green Beans.. This is another Fav..

Texas Caviar

3 cans of blackeyed peas (drained)

1/2 red bell pepper diced

1/2 yellow bell pepper diced

1 small can of green chilie peppers chopped

1 lg red onion chopped

1 can of diced tomato ( I use Rotel (extra hot) which is spicy)

1/2 cup Viva Italian Dressing

1 clove of garlic minced

Salt and Pepper to taste

! Procedure

Throw it all in a bowl let it set for a couple of hours and Enjoy

Nope, can't say I've acquired the taste fer 'em, tho!!

Happy New Year everyone!! Wish this year will be a good and healthy year for all.Lucy you have such a special way with words . I love to read your POTD. My internet was not working and I could not post for the last few days. I was in the middle of posting on Wednesday when my internet crushed. My New Year has started off Great, I got too spend time with the Grands, then I started too clean out clutter, my Kitchen, Basement & Living room looks so much better some of my Brugs had too be thrown out,some of them dried all the way down too the roots, but with them not taking up space, now I can get too all of the others too water, some have started coming too like with big green leaves without any pest on them, I hope everyone's Brugs are doing well Elizabeth

I refer to it often when things won't work for me. pa After you download your first picture you will see 3 lines of html underneath it. If you copy the second line, the TAG line, you can then paste that line into your forum message. Thank you. As I recall we had a record high of 80 last Sunday (1 January). Tonight and tomorrow night (6 and 7 /January) will get down to 24 and 26, then back up into the 60/70s after that. The ground is always workable. The lows are very short in duration. The day temps normally warm everything back up. This is a great time to garden. Weeds grow slow, and no mosquitoes. It is a gardeners paradise from oct to march. April, May and June starts to warm up. July, August and Sept are too hot and too many bugs. In the recent past, I tried a second tomato season in late fall. Looking back, it makes no sense to try to grow in July, Aug, Sept when it is so effortless now. Of course, I can't grow tomatoes now. I am thinking I will just grow extra tomatoes in the normal season and freeze the extra. The ones I froze from last summer did real good in Sauces. I don't have a lot of time to can/make sauce to freeze, but I can always make time to quarter tomatoes and throw them in a bag in the freezer. The sweet white turnips, hakerie (name is close to that), are one of the lesser cold hardy varieties. They are very tastee, especially roasted with the carrots. I have a small patch of them and few remain. I will cover them. Everything else is very hardy and remains uncovered: Kale,broccoli, collards,onions, carrots and Lettuce. I expect some Lettuce losses, as there are many varieties. I expect half to survive just fine. I watered real good yesterday getting ready for the cold snap.

Kylie, is the Texas Caviar a chili or is it a salsa-type of mixture? Sounds pretty good.

I myself am making menudo right now! I have tried making tamales a few times, but have given up. They just don't come out right like my mom makes them. Besides I don't eat pork so I am always trying to improvise using beef products for both the menudo and tamales. As for the menudo, I don't eat the tripe or beef shanks; I just use them to flavor the soup to which I add lots of cilantro, oregano, lemon juice, red chili and eat with saltine crackers, yummy! People that like menudo, i.e., the tripe and beef/pig hoofs, think I am wasteful because I throw that stuff away, but I just don't like that part.

I have some seed X's here I could share if it was something hadn't gotten.. You were so generous with our trade I would like to repay your generousity..Most of the seed came from the seed bank and a few others from trades ...Maybe I don't have the right E~..I will try again..Or if you want to just send it to me..

Eloise.. I have never had menudo.. well becoz I would be wasteful.. LOL but yours sounds very good..I would give it a try..The Texas Caviar is a cold thang..
I would give anything for a great tamale recipe...

I shared a bowl of menudo this morning with my hubby, and I did eat the yucky stuff-- delicious! But I always make the cook leave out the beef hooves- that visually grosses me out!!! I'm probably grossing a few of you out right about now- fine, ya don't have ta kiss me!!! LOL!!!!

Hey did someone say MENUDO & TAMALES? Just making me hungy right now. We had tamales from Joe T Garcia's here in Ft Worth for Christmas dinner. But they still have nothing on grandmas tamales!As for New Years at my house we have Blackeyed beans and corn bread with a cold beer..

When I was younger, we used to go out dancing and drinking New Year's eve. Later, we would all go to each other's home and eat menudo and tamales. Here in CA, friends would make a big deal about their menudo and tamales, but I've always compared them to my mom's and have never liked anyone's. So I learned to make menudo like my mom's; she's told me a few times how to make tamales, but they still don't come out the same. One summer, my mom mailed us some tamales from AZ. We went and picked them up and headed to the beach -- what a great treat that was!
