Congratulations, that's wonderful! But does he not know that this only makes room for yet more plants?? HA HA Good thing you've got somebody coming to put yours up...My Dad bought me an early Christmas present a couple of months ago and it's a 6 x 8. The instuctions said something like 8 hours to put it up. Ahhh, that wasn't even close! But I sure am enjoying it now. Please post pics while it's going up and when it's done.

but now you have to change your tactics, growing brugs. Bet that green house gets filled in no time and hubby is back to an inundation of Brugs ;) You will have to expand that GH soon! heheh.

I don't know if any brugs will be going in the GH, maybe a couple of the variegated ones. I have too many other plants that need it more and are taking up a lot more space in the house. The brugs are hardy enough to withstand pretty much anything and most can go in the big GH at the farm. We finally had to start using the heater in the GH at night. It's been miserably cold here with some 50 MPH wind gusts. I run from the house to the car and into wherever I'm going. I hate being in the cold, even for a minute but have this weird thing about not parking in the garage. Something about putting my car in the garage freaks me out and always has. I think the real reason I want the new GH attached to my house is so I don't have to walk outside to get to it. lol DH is a good guy and we've been married for 21 years. If he wasn't he'd have been long gone.

Congrats Karyn, what a wonderful gift your hubby gave you! Just imagine, early in the morning walking into you GH, still in your robe and a cup of coffee (or tea) in one hand, just admiring your protected plants, and not having to go out in the cold.

Jim he's not putting it up. He hired someone that does work for us at the farm to put it up. Bruce isn't what I'd call mechanically inclined. He can set up the computers and other electronics but that's about it. We pretty much hire people to do anything that needs to be done around the house. Besides that he really doesn't have the time. Thanks for the holiday wishes. I don't like when Hanukkah falls so early in the month, damn lunar calender. It doesn't feel festive. It's really a fairly insignificant religious holiday but the Jews needed something so they won't feel bad when all their gentile friends are getting presents on Christmas. lol

Thats funny Karyn! You mean you are supposed to store cars in a garage, lol. I thought they were only for plants. My poor husband insisted when we were house hunting on having a 2 car garage and wouldn't even consider the ones I was looking at that had converted them into extra rooms. Now I bet he wishes he had let me get the one with the sun room since no car has ever been parked in there yet.

Thats funny about the garage. I have a funny feeling about parking in the garage as well. I wonder if mine is from too much crime channel, dastardly things seem to happen to people in garages. Or maybe it stems back to when I reversed out of the garage with a door open and took it clean off.
Congrats on the greenhouse. Is it off your formal dining room or off the family dining room? Is it made of glass? I am trying to picture how they look.

I wish the GH was iron and glass but it's aluminum with polycarbonate window panes. It's rectangular with a peaked roof, vents along the top and sliding doors. It's going to be off the formal dining room which is more often filled with plants then people. lol We usually eat in the kitchen. I'm not sure what it is about garages but I get the heeby jeebies when I park in one. I don't have a problem with a commercial garage, just the residential kind.

Well - have a festive holiday anyway - minor or not.

I was talking to DH about a door into the green room from the house - I almost got strangled. (grin)

Setting up the lights in there today - benches are up - it's not painted white yet - but it's heated - warm - and will have grow lights. Several 48" florescents with grow bulbs hung down - will be ordering a couple HIDs - working out the logistics on the breakers. (15 - not a 20 amp out there)

Guess everyone (cuttings and pots) will be moving in there soon. It's between 65 and 70. So - guess stuff won't be "dormant" in there.

I'm gonna need a different hudson sprayer for water. I should go check on the "dormant" plants - because at that temp - they won't be dormant and will need water. And since they will be warm - maybe some of these potted ones will do better rather than the moderate 65-68 here in the house.

Dweeb you might not want HID lights in the greenhouse. Look into the T5 fluorescent bulbs. The HID lights put out so much heat. We only use fluorescent bulbs in the GH. I was reading something about LED grow lights. I'd never heard of them before but they look really cool. I'm going to do some more reading about them.

They look even better than the florescents. (Which we were planning on going with.)

HIDs and a 15 amp - not good! (grin) 'nuff is enough. Not going to worry about trying to rewire for HIDs.
