You don't say where you live and whether or not these citrus will be staying in containers, or going into the ground. You I am assuming they will be staying in containers. You definitely should pot them up into something larger. I would move up to at least a 7 gal. container, and do not use "garden soil". It is not well enough draining. I use EB Stone Cactus Mix, but there are even better home-made mixes you can create. If you search for "gritty mix" you will see the recipes. One of our container citrus experts here, like Meyer Mike can probably give you the link to the message containing the recipe. And of course, regular and frequent fertilizing with something like DynaGrow Foliage Pro will keep your citrus healthy and happy. Patty S.

Sun and Fertilizer arent that important. I pass plenty of trees while driving around the state of FL. Old orchards are now covered with pine trees that are 20 ft high. Yet the Orange Trees are in mostly shade and are still producing fruit. Kinda funny to see fruit trees loaded with oranges in the middle of the shaded forest.

Of all the citrus, only lemon can be propagated by cuttings. All others are grafted onto bitterstock, or wild oranges, using grafting materials ordered from the 'Valley'. They are certified clean and free from virii. This is a facility run by the State of Texas Agriculture Dept. You might want to check with your state's dept. of Agriculture to see what is available from them, or they could give you the info on ordering from Texas. The other manner of propagating citrus, is from seed. Just about all of them will germinate, and they are easy to grow. The problem with growing them from seed is that they will not always be true to the parent that provided the seeds. With oranges, I think you have a 50-50 chance of the seedling being like the parent. That would mean that you would have a 50-50 chance of them being bitter, sour, nasty tasting things. It is a chance you take. The one saving grace of an orange being bitter, is that the plant itself is usually lovely. I took a little seminar about Citrus, and found it to be very informative. All the citrus I have now, are results of my grafting trials. I will never be able to do it for a living, treatment at the ER is far too costly. LOL. I cut myself every time! Janie

My Variegated Pink Lemon is a very pretty tree but more finicky than most of my other citrus trees. Mine is in a container. I find it likes a bit more shade in the summer than most of my other trees too. The new leaves are pinkish-purple and so are the flower buds. It is blooming in my greenhouse now. It's fruit are variegated too when it is not ripe, but turns yellow and loses most of the variegation when it ripens. Sometimes the raised lines where some of the stripes on the fruit are remains raised after it turns yellow. It tastes like the Eureka lemon that is not variegated.
